About us

TopFruit was founded in 1983 by three nurserymen, Dr Jim Button, Richard Hill and Roy Jeffrey and has since been introducing new fruit varieties into Southern Africa from breeders all over the world. Our focus is to discover and unlock the potential of these varieties for Southern African producers. This is achieved through variety development, a strong program of intellectual property management, brand development, and innovative marketing initiatives. Over the years the potential of trademarking fresh produce has become more apparent and has introduced new possibilities into the industry. TopFruit offers a comprehensive service from the importation of plant material to the marketing of commercialised fruit brands in the following categories: Pome Fruit, Stone Fruit, Kiwifruit, Table Grapes, Nuts and Berries.

We are proud to announce our partnership with Bademli Kooperatifi in Turkey as global licensees for the elite walnut variety, Potamia Erdin. This new variety features thin shells and large fruit, with a high seed efficiency (shelled weight to seed weight ratio). It is self-fertile and ripens early to mid-season. We are thrilled about this collaboration and look forward to testing and evaluating Potamia Erdin in all major walnut-producing regions worldwide.   Photos: Potamia Erdin in Turkey

Fruit Attraction 2024 in Madrid once again delivered as a premier gathering spot for the international fruit industry, and TopFruit was there to make the most of it!   We connected with our clients, exporters, and importers, further strengthening our global partnerships across the pome fruit, stone fruit, table grape, berry, and kiwifruit categories.   One of the highlights was the Pink Lady® Europe stand, beautifully enhanced by an impressive, suspended art installation, crafted by renowned Italian designer Francesco Poroli.    It was also a pleasure catching up with our breeders and exploring new opportunities to grow together.    See you next year Madrid!   #fruitattraction2024 #partnerships #weareTopFruit #Internationalleaders

We’ve just wrapped up a trip through the north of Portugal, with a quick visit across the border into Spain. It was a privilege to travel alongside our European licensee and representative, STAR FRUITS. Our goal? To explore the kiwi industry in the Iberian Peninsula, an exciting region for kiwifruit production. We had the opportunity to visit key players in the industry, tour their orchards and packhouses, and discuss possibilities for collaboration.

Red Phoenix in Full Bloom Captured in the scenic Robertson area of the Western Cape, our Red Phoenix plum variety is showcasing its beautiful blossoms. This variety hangs very well on the tree, whilst maintaining consistent pressure. This allows for an extended harvesting window from week 3 to 5 in a normal growing season. Red Phoenix has excellent eating qualities with a TSS of 18%. We are looking forward to the new plum season #RedPhoenixPlum #FullBloom #Internationalleaders #WeareTopFruit #Agriculture
