The 14th International Conference on Southern Hemisphere Meteorology and Oceanography (#ICSHMO2025) commenced today at the Cape Town International Conference Centre, scheduled from March 31 to April 4, 2025. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), led by the SAEON team, including Chair Prof Juliet Hermes, Nicole du Plessis, and Dr Tamaryn Morris under the guidance of SAEON's Managing Director, Dr. Mary-Jane Bopape, ensured a successful start. Part of the conference will highlight findings of the third edition of the Monograph of Southern Hemisphere Meteorology. The initial edition dates back to 1972, spearheaded by Dr. Harry van Loon, followed by the 1997 edition by Prof David Karoly (far right in the first picture showcasing hard copies of the first two editions) from the University of Melbourne and Dayton G. Vincent. The current edition, edited by Prof Andrea Taschetto from UNSW, Prof Tercio Ambrizzi from USP - Universidade de São Paulo, and myself from UP Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, was contributed to by over 100 authors from 22 countries, the majority of whom are Southern Hemisphere researchers across career stages. Acknowledgments extend to Prof Andrea Taschetto for her effective leadership and Prof Tercio Ambrizzi for his insightful contributions. The finalized Monograph is anticipated by late 2025 or early 2026. Notable attendees include Prof Rebecca Garland, Dr. Michael Barnes (a #UP alumni now at Monash University), MSc students Bhavani Brijlal and Donald Nkabinde, and PhD candidate Tsholanang Rammopo (not appearing in the picture), as well as Dr. Peace Awoleye, PhD, a post-doctoral fellow, all affiliated with the Geography, Geoinformatics, and Meteorology Department at the University of Pretoria . #ICSHMO2025, #UP Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.
