First Quantum Celebrates International Women’s Day in Style
In celebration of International Women’s Day, FQM Trident Limited reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s rights, equality, and empowerment through a series of transformative initiatives in Kalumbila District.
Among the key events was the Women in Business Forum, which spotlighted the success stories of female entrepreneurs from the mining company’s local catchment area. One such success story was Dynes Chipoya, a farmer who credited FQM Trident’s specialised business training for helping her grow her enterprise. The local business development programme, part of FQM Trident’s Corporate Social Investment efforts through the Trident Foundation Limited (TFL), has empowered over 700 women to launch their own businesses. In addition to training, participants have benefited from zero-interest returnable grants and opportunities to integrate into the mining giant’s value chain. TFL representative Auxillia Kangwa lauded these achievements, calling them a “tangible impact” on the community.
The company also hosted the Women of Excellence Workshop, which honoured women’s resilience in traditionally male-dominated industries. The event, held in partnership with Stanbic Bank, emphasised economic inclusion designed to empower women financially. Eunice Mundia, a representative from Stanbic, highlighted the importance of this initiative in driving financial independence for women, while FQM Trident’s Mulenga Tembo encouraged women to foster solidarity and support one another, stressing the value of networking and shared knowledge.
In addition to these events, female employees from FQM Trident marked the penultimate day of the week-long celebrations with a community clean-up exercise and a donation drive at Kisasa Rural Health Clinic’s maternity wing. The group provided essential supplies for newborns, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to improving local healthcare.
FQM Trident Senior Public Relations Specialist Miriam Harmon, underscored the importance of collective action in empowering women, regardless of their background.
The celebrations concluded with female employees and local community women joining hundreds of public and private companies in a march-past to commemorate the special event.
These events, aligned with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme, “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment,” reinforce the crucial role women play in driving economic and social progress.
FQM Trident’s continued commitment to gender equality is making a profound impact on industries, businesses, and communities in Kalumbila and beyond.
