Prospero’s Commitment to Agricultural Growth and Innovation through Cluster Farming. For years, Prospero has been dedicated to fostering growth in Zambia's agriculture sector by building a consortium of partners to drive progress across the value chain. Through meaningful collaborations, we have sought to bridge gaps and enhance sustainability in farming practices, ensuring that smallholder and emerging farmers can thrive alongside commercial enterprises. This year, we launched the Coordinated Cluster Farming Pilot Project, an initiative aimed at improving collaboration, skills development, and yields for farmers. The project is designed to bridge the knowledge gap between commercial and emerging farms, promoting sustainable agricultural practices that uplift entire farming communities. This innovative approach is set to revolutionize how small-scale and emerging farmers operate, with a strong focus on treating farming as a viable business. At the heart of the Cluster Farming Pilot lies the initiative to harness successful small scale farming, showcasing a sustainable financing mechanism that leverages innovative financial instruments. This model seeks to empower farmers by providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to optimize their output and profitability while ensuring environmental sustainability. In light of this commitment, Prospero is thrilled to celebrate a significant milestone—the recent signing of the $491 million Zambia Farm-to-Market Compact by CEO Alice Albright. This Compact, part of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), marks an expansion of MCC’s investments in Zambia to over $800 million. The investments span various sectors, including water, sanitation, drainage, agriculture, and agro-processing. The Compact’s primary focus on enhancing the agricultural sector and promoting inclusive economic opportunities aligns perfectly with Prospero’s mission. The MCC initiative supports Zambia’s agricultural infrastructure, enabling smallholder farmers to access markets more efficiently and sustainably, further advancing Zambia’s agro-processing sector. Today, Prospero is proud to bring this pilot to life. With a pipeline of five game-changing clusters, we are poised to demonstrate the power of coordinated efforts in transforming the agricultural landscape. The MCC Compact further strengthens our position as a leader in agricultural innovation and sustainable growth. As we embark on this journey, Prospero remains open to collaboration with all stakeholders who share our vision. Together, we aim to create a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural sector that works for everyone—from smallholder farmers to large-scale agribusinesses. We invite partners to join us in this effort to make agriculture work for Zambia’s future. Photo credit: Millenium Challenge Corporation
