Since launching #START4Girls program in 103 schools across Buhera and Mutare rural districts, we've seen amazing progress in girls' education! 📚✨ The pass rates for O-levels have risen from 15% in 2020 to 21% in 2023! 🚀 In 2023, 20.9% of girls tracked since 2020 achieved at least 5 O-level passes, and 11% have transitioned to Advanced level and tertiary training. Today marked the second day of the transformative Inaugural Zimbabwe High-Level Women in Leadership Summit! 🌍 Under the powerful theme "Accelerating Gender Parity through Collective Action: Strengthening Accountability and Solidarity to Transform Policies into Tangible Progress", this summit ignited a revolution for women's empowerment in Zimbabwe. Minister of Women Affairs Senator Monica Mutsvangwa just submitted a game-changing communique to Vice-President Kembo Mohadi, highlighting Zimbabwe's impressive progress in achieving gender parity - ranking in the top 15 countries in Africa! 🙌 However, the communique also boldly addressed the critical challenges still facing women, including underrepresentation in leadership, limited access to finance and resources, and the scourge of gender-based violence. The communique put forth bold recommendations to drive real change, including: 🗒 Expediting the landmark Gender Equality Law to align with the constitution 🗒 Building the capacity of aspiring female leaders 🗒 Strengthening market access, 🗒 Increasing government funding to prevent and respond to GBV and 🗒 Engaging men in both the public and private sector to promote gender equality. We are currently participating in the Regional Dialogue for Non-State Actors on the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030) ahead of the 44th SADC Head of States and Government summit. As part of a coalition of 16 civil society organizations, we're tracking the implementation of the RISDP 2020-2030. This dialogue provides a crucial platform for non-state actors to assess progress on the RISDP's goals across key areas like health, agriculture, education, gender, youth, and climate change - with a focus on 5 countries (Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe). The insights from this process will inform the communique that will shape discussions at the upcoming 44th SADC Head of States and Government Summit. Excited to share the key takeaways from our collaborative monitoring efforts soon. During a recent #WorldBreastfeedingWeek commemoration in Mutare Rural District, Village Health Workers performed a song emphasizing that breast milk should be exclusively provided to the child it was intended for. Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and optimal early childhood development. 👉 "Musape mukaka kunana baba" 👉 "Mothers should not give breast milk to their husbands." #WBW2024
