Exciting Milestone for Goumbook's Mission! 🌊 We are thrilled to announce that our Director of Programmes and Campaigns Lama Saleh has received on behalf of Goumbook a grant from the Atlas Project for the third consecutive year as part of Atlantis Hotel - Dubai’s ongoing support for marine conservation and education. This contribution allows us to pilot a new collaborative citizen science project, enhancing ocean literacy among high school and university students and engaging them in collecting data on coastal plastic pollution in the UAE. A first in the UAE, this project aligns with and furthers our work under other campaigns and initiatives like Drop it by Goumbook, Save The Butts, MENA Oceans and #YouthAction. Thank you, Atlantis Resorts, for standing alongside us as we continue to empower ocean stewardship, reduce marine litter, and inspire positive change for a sustainable future. Today marks The International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, serving as a vital reminder of the significance of the air we breathe and our constant connection to the world around us. The reality is - 99% of the global population is exposed to polluted air! Air pollution is a leading environmental health risk, fueling climate change, causing economic setbacks and healthcare costs, and diminishing agricultural yields. Its impact knows no boundaries, making it a shared responsibility to protect our atmosphere and ensure clean air for all. This year's theme, "Invest in #CleanAirNow," underscores the urgent need for stronger partnerships, increased investments, and collective responsibility. We are committed to addressing this issue by enhancing indoor air quality, safeguarding health and wellbeing, and minimising exposure risks to various air pollutants. To this end, a set of studies under the #TakeABreath umbrella are shedding light on key findings on indoor air quality in different environments within the UAE and outlining best practices. Our recent study focused on school environments during the 2023/ 2024 academic year is now complete. We're excited to share that we have teamed up with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for an amazing school kit packing activity. Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA)'s enthusiastic employees filled 900 backpacks with sustainable school supplies. These backpacks have already made their way to students across six schools in Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA)'s neighboring communities, giving them the tools they need to start the school year strong.
