H2 Global Energy led consortium signs MOU with Tunisian Government for $6 Billion Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Project Tunis, July 29, 2024– Today, a consortium led by H2 Global Energy and Amarenco signed an agreement with the Tunisian government represented by the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy to develop a groundbreaking green hydrogen and green ammonia project. The total expected investment for this strategic initiative is $6 billion. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Abdullah Abou Romman the Ambassador of Jordan to Tunisia and H.E Arnaud Guigne, the French head of the Regional Economic Services of Tunisia. This ambitious project aims to leverage Tunisia’s abundant renewable energy resources to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia, positioning the country as a key player in the global clean energy transition. The project is expected to create numerous job opportunities and drive significant economic growth in Tunisia, while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

The latest IRENA report, titled “Global Trade in Green Hydrogen Derivatives: Trends in Regulation, Standardization, and Certification,” highlights a key issue: there is currently no universally accepted or mandated framework or standard that defines low-emission hydrogen. It’s crucial to ensure that these frameworks are adaptable to the specific characteristics and needs of those markets. - Producers outside the EU may face various regulations stemming from RED and CBAM, each with its own set of requirements. This can be challenging due to differences in accounting methodologies and sources for electricity emission factors. Improving clarity for producers will help reduce administrative hurdles. - International collaboration should aim for interoperability, aligning regulatory requirements and ensuring mutual recognition of certification schemes.
