Mission and Objectives AMF is one of the actors putting transport on track to sustainability and reducing the environmental impacts from transport. Established in 1984, AMF has a strong international network that serves to foster collaborative research, development, and deployment (RD&D) and to provide unbiased information on clean, energy-efficient, and sustainable fuels and related engine and vehicle technology. Vision Advanced motor fuels, applicable to all modes of transport, significantly contribute to a sustainable society around the globe. AMF brings stakeholders from different continents together for pooling and leveraging of knowledge and research capabilities in the field of advanced and sustainable transport fuels. Our cooperation enables an exchange of best practices. With our broad geographical representation, we are able to take regional and local conditions into consideration when developing policy briefs and facilitating deployment of new fuel and engine technologies. Mission The mission of AMF is to advance the understanding and appreciation of the potential of advanced motor fuels towards transport sustainability. We provide sound scientific information and technology assessments facilitating informed and science-based decisions regarding advanced motor fuels on all levels of decision-making. AMF provides technology analysis and policy recommendations to support achieving energy policy and environmental sustainability goals. AMF initiates new activities and generates first hand data, whether through cost sharing, task sharing, or a combination of these two modes. Cost-shared activities enable AMF to quickly react to new developments, if necessary. New Annexes can be initiated either top-down or bottom-up and it takes three contracting parties to start up an Annex. Annex reports and key messages are published on the AMF website immediately after completion, and feed into related IEA publications.

Thanks to Rosalinde van der Vlies and her colleagues at the European Commission for inviting me and other independent experts - Frank Geels, Paula Kivimaa and Wolf Ketter - to provide recommendations and ideas on challenges and priorities for research and innovation (R&I) in the areas of clean energy and mobility. We did this in a report that was just launched in Brussels. We considered four macro-level contextual changes that affect the environment in which the EU, and the energy and mobility systems, operate: 1. The shift of key low-carbon technologies to the diffusion and deployment stage. 2. The global innovation race accompanying this shift. 3. The rise in global geopolitical tensions. 4. Societal contestation around the low-carbon and technology transitions. Our suggestions build on a vision that remains firm regarding the EU’s long-term ecological, economic and social objectives, and hence the need to accelerate the low-carbon transition, while also acknowledging the necessity to enhance European competitiveness, step up actions regarding security and address social acceptance and justice concerns. We suggested priorities for basic, applied and deployment-oriented research and innovation actions, looking at key pathways that we see as priorities to fulfill this vision. These cover systems integration, digital technologies, solar and wind electricity, grids, heat pumps for buildings and industry, electric vehicles, biofuels (with a focus on modes of transport that need them way more than road: aviation and shipping), hydrogen and its derivatives (for fertilizers, chemical, steel and possibly other sectors requiring more than direct electrification to be decarbonised). We also looked at social innovation, Mobility as a Service and transport infrastructures. Broader policy recommendations for EU R&I also touch on the need to increase public R&I support strategically, to find a new balance between the legacy focus on the protection of existing assets (and incumbent industries) and the need for new industrial assets (including from new market entrants), while taking specific measures regarding social innovations and also considering institutional changes. 🚀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗳𝗳-𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗸𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘂𝗺𝗴𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘇𝘁! 🔧 Am IFA - Institut für Fahrzeugantriebe und Automobiltechnik haben wir gemeinsam mit unseren Partnern Schaeffler und Austro Engine GmbH im Rahmen des von der FFG Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH geförderten Projekts „Dual Fuel H2 Engine“ einen wichtigen Meilenstein erreicht: Die erste Wasserstoff-Direkteinblasung im Austro Engine AE330, dem aufgeladenen Zweiliter-Aggregat, zum Antrieb der Diamond Aircraft DA-40, DA-42 und DA-62 Kleinflugzeuge! ⚙️ Bislang waren die im Markt verfügbaren H2-Injektoren durch Strahlkappen auf genau eine definierte Einblasrichtung begrenzt – ein Kompromiss in puncto Homogenisierung und Emissionsreduzierung. Dank des innovativen „Dual-Mode Nozzle“-Einblasventils von Schaeffler können wir nun erstmals im Betrieb verschiedene Strahlbilder (Jet, Coandă und deren Mischformen) realisieren und so eine optimale Homogenisierung des Gemischs über das gesamte Motorenkennfeld erzielen. 🔄 Das Ergebnis?
