TESTING AND VERIFICATION METHODS FOR AUTOMATED DRIVING FUNCTIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL PERCEPTION SYSTEM

Info

EUREKA Test.EPS aims to create a unique cross-border testing region and develop ODD-centred certification processes for AD/ADAS functions with a special focus on EPS. In EUREKA Test.EPS, the strengths of real-world testing and simulation methods are to be combined to optimize and shorten the time-to-market of ADAS/AD functions and EPS. Furthermore, the project aims to test and certify reliable and robust AD/ADAS functions for safe and trustworthy automated mobility. It addresses societal, strategic economic and research goals of different current research programmes on national and European level with focus on personal mobility and vehicle technology: - Increase of traffic safety for all traffic participants - Further development of interconnected, transnational transport systems and sustainable mobility services - Creation of reference applications and demonstrators - Establishing and promoting international cooperation - Methods and technologies that raise the value of cross-border testing above the values as the sum of the indiviudal test environments

The Eureka TestEPS project aims to develop a validation procedure for measuring the performance of ADAS/AD systems at both functional and detection levels. Besides aiMotive, international partners collaborated to combine their expertise and technology to achieve this goal. Two weeks ago, one of the final steps in this process was testing the Automated Valet Parking system according to the developed procedures in Budapest, at the aiMotive headquarters. 🎇 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐄𝐄𝐄 𝐗𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞 🎇 📢 The EUREKA Test.EPS team is thrilled to announce that the paper “𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲-𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻”, which was partly created in the course of EUREKA Test.EPS, has been published on IEEE Xplore. 📃 In this study, the focus is on the development of feature validation methods to assess virtual testing components, such as sensor models, in a modular fashion, similarly to unit-tests of software development. For this, the feature of range-reflectivity models for the maximum range determination of virtual lidar sensors is introduced. This feature can be applied to ideal and adverse weather conditions. A metric based on point cloud comparison is proposed, leading the way towards systematic model assessment. 📢 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐭 📢 𝑴𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒕: 🔸 Original dataset + 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 & 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 🔸 𝟯𝟬𝟬+ spectral reflectance material values 🔸 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ranges from 0° to 80° in steps of 10° 🔸 TOF wavelength similar to most common automotive lidar sensors 🔎 This update enriches the material dataset with vehicle varnish measurements which play an essential role for realistic modelling of the optical signature of automotive sensors and lead to a higher fidelity with regard to parametrization of lidar sensors aiming towards digital twin. Further moss rubber measurements can be utilized for reflectance measurement purposes as this material exhibits close to Lambertian reflector behavior with its smooth, anti-skid, water-repellent and optical mate surface. 📉 The pictures represent measurements of our self-developed time-of-flight camera measurement device, taken for five different color & four different greyscale varnishes that are commonly present in nowadays traffic vehicles, including higher reflective metallic varnishes. 📊 👏 Big thanks to our dedicated author David J. Ritter for his great effort and contribution! 📰 Further details of the publication can be found online in the journal “Data in brief”: https://lnkd.in/dYcfy_qn 👉The updated material dataset is open access available on the repository Zenodo: https://lnkd.in/dPgrtPdF #update #material #optical #infrared #eps #digitaltwin #publication #dataset #perception #database #lidar #autonmotive #zenodo #raytracing #project #research

Head of DIGITAL TWIN LAB, Business Area Manager - Mobility, Expert Digital Twins and Automated Driving

Wondering how to test and certify environmental perception systems of automated vehicles? The research project EUREKA Test.EPS showcased its novel automated approach at Lakeside Science & Technology Park by using #digitaltwinlab ground truth data of JOANNEUM RESEARCH 🚀. Perception data from test vehicles of Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH are automatically compared with ground truth data from (i) infrastructure traffic monitoring systems by ALP.Lab GmbH and BERNARD Gruppe and (ii) a high detail #digitaltwin of the road and traffic infrastructure 🛣 by JOANNEUM RESEARCH DIGITAL . The fusion of perception data from different sources like vehicle and infrastructure is done in real-time by the use of a 3D digital twin of the test environment. Many thanks Anna Port, Jakob Reckenzaun, Markus Schratter, Christoph Knauder and Stefan Ladstätter, Anna Weber, Werner Pretscher, @Daniel Maurer for making this happen. Many thanks for the support of David Pitschmann and Barbara Orasche from Lakeside Science & Technology Park. #simulation #tesing #automateddriving #autonomousdriving #digitaltwin #validation #mobilemapping
