↟ Restaurant See Villa Millstatt ↟ See-Villa was the first hotel to be built directly on the lake in Millstatt in 1984. For its 140th anniversary, the original plan was to replace the restaurant with a full concrete structure. However, the HASSLACHER Group was able to offer an alternative option to the client and realise the barrel roofs in timber. The existing restaurant was removed and rebuilt on an area of approx. 350 m². It includes a restaurant area, a bar, a salon, new bathrooms and an updated commercial kitchen area. A basement stretches across the entire structure. In total there are roughly, 120 dining spots. The arch trusses for the roof elements were produced at the Hermagor location, the multi-ply solid wood panels and slats for the barrel roofs at the Rangersdorf location. Shortly before installation, the ceilings (which had originally been commissioned to be built from concrete) were ordered. A tight timeframe, but the HASSLACHER Group managed to implement and execute this project with its group of companies. International Softwood Conference On the podium in Taormina ↟↟ The Italian Federation of the Timber Trade Industry (Fedecomlegno di FederlegnoArredo), together with the European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF) and the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry (EOS), hosted the International Softwood Conference 2024 in the Sicily region of Taormina - one of the most anticipated events of the year in the timber world. ↟↟ Already today, Christoph Kulterer, CEO and owner of the HASSLACHER group, was a guest of moderator Gerd Ebner (Editor-in-Chief Holzkurier) in the panel discussion on the construction sector focussing on ‘Trade between Italy and Austria’ together with Richard Stralz (CEO Mayr-Melnhof Holz) and Aldo Cingolani (Co-Founder Bertone Design Group). ‘Sustainable forestry, increasing forest resources and industrial utilisation are not a contradiction in terms if forests are managed wisely, ecological aspects are harmonised with economic interests and the appropriate legal framework is in place. However, the regulations must be designed in such a way that they are practicable and do not jeopardise the industry's competitiveness. Whether the EUDR is the right way to achieve this is questionable. It is currently far too complicated and far too bureaucratic. It is important that our industry is prepared to invest more in research and lobbying in order to represent the interests of forestry and the timber industry in the political landscape at European level,’ was one of Christoph Kulterer's key messages. :: ↟↟ About the 72nd International Softwood Conference This two-day conference is an opportunity to take an in-depth look at trends in the timber market, focusing on facts and figures on the production and consumption of softwood in the most important countries for the industry worldwide - not just in Europe. ↟ Daycare Kupferstein ↟ In the fall of 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Kita Kupferstein” Daycare Centre in Dingolfing/Germany marked the beginning of an exciting building project for Diakonie Landshut. The new Daycare Centre will be innovative in every way, in particular, in terms of size, care concept and construction. The new Daycare Centre was designed generously with five group rooms and can, if needed, be extended at a later date. The commissioned company Wagner Architekten chose an all-timber construction method for the new Daycare Centre. Most of the material was sourced from the local forests, with larch being used on the facade and silver fir for the interior. With its wavy, green roof, the building perfectly blends into its surroundings and becomes one with nature, with the generous exterior picking up the building's roof shape in its hilly landscape. The approx. 130 m³ of glued-laminated timber were produced at the HASSLACHER group's Kleinheubach location, CNC-machined and delivered. The biggest challenge lay in the tight radii of the curved special components made from exposed spruce. Due to these tight radii, lamellas with a thickness of under 10 mm had to be used in places. To save on costs, curved components only exposed to low structural stress were milled from straight glued-laminated timber. Near the border to Wales the Berkeley Green Skills Centre was built. At this location, a sustainable science and technology park was created to promote the region. The high-contrast conversion from a former nuclear research building to a competence center for research for renewable energies is reflected in the use of wood in architecture. Constructively, a wooden frame was placed on the existing steel structure in this project to transform the first and second floors into an atrium.
