Collaboration is the Future! We had the privilege of presenting our case studies at the Dutch ATMP Summit in Leiden on 12th of March. While planning our journey, we thought: why not visit our long-time collaborators at Antleron? Despite working together for four years, this was our first in-person meeting. Roger and Mark set off for Brussels to connect with Jan Schrooten, Filip Donvil, Evan Claes and Tommy Heck to explore the future of bioprocess development for ATMPs and how we can further unite our efforts to support our clients. After an inspiring day in Leuven, Evan and Mark drove to Leiden to participate in the summit the following day. We showcased our joint achievement, a small-scale model for adherent cell expansion on a 3D-printed scaffold that accelerated the process development by 81% while cutting costs by 57%. This breakthrough was made possible by combining Antleron's unique 3D-printed expertise and Cost of Good Model analysis with Novasign's Hybridmodel Toolbox. We enjoyed all talks and found plenty of overlaps with the work highlighted by Marieke Klijn and Ramon van Valderen from TU Delft. A standout moment for us was discovering Nanocell Therapeutics' innovative approach to in vivo gene therapy delivery. It was refreshing to witness how novel medicine is making a direct impact in trials, especially for a team like ours that primarily focuses on process development. Process Optimization: Maximizing Efficiency in Viral Manufacturing In collaboration with our strategic partner bespark*bio, we used time-resolved hybrid modeling to optimize a Vero cell culture process for lytic virus production. By strategically selecting just 8 experiments instead of 22, we achieved a 64% reduction in experimental effort, saving time, resources, and operational costs. This approach allowed us to simulate key parameters like MOI, temperature, and pH, providing insights into process performance, product quality, and economic impact. The result? Last week was nothing short of incredible! - a whirlwind of activity, achievements, and inspiration. We had the honor of presenting at Lonza Innovation Day 2024 in Basel, hosted by Thomas Villiger and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. The event was packed with insights from leading vendors and experts, all focusing on the transformative role of ML/AI in bioprocessing, structure, and target identification. The discussions were as intense as they were inspiring. The event in Basel was so packed with insights and discussions that by the end, it felt like we had hit a #StackOverflow error - but what an incredible way to immerse ourselves in the cutting edge of bioprocessing innovation! Thank you Zara Asgharpour for the invitation! Barely a moment to catch our breath, and the next day in Vienna was equally intense. Three-quarters of the day were filled with back-to-back client meetings, and as the day progressed, we seamlessly transitioned into the Austrian IT and Consultants Day 2024. It was a day to remember: after celebrating our victory at the Staatspreis Innovation - Econovius two weeks ago, we were thrilled to learn that we also won the Staatspreis for Consulting and IT, awarded by Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy. Our team's hard work and dedication over the past year have earned us this dual recognition. At Novasign, our mission is clear: we're streamlining workflows and refining our software, shaped by expertise from over 30 consulting projects, to deliver the intuitive and user-friendly Novasign Studio. Why? To provide our clients with an efficient, easy-to-use solution that accelerates process development across all modalities - from enzymes and mAbs to complex ATMPs. These awards reaffirm our vision and inspire us to push innovation even further. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team - this success belongs to all of us. We’re back from the ESIB conference in Graz, hosted by acib GmbH, feeling inspired and energized by the insights and connections made. At ESIB, Novasign's technology was featured in six different presentations - a proud moment that strengthens our confidence in our solutions’ impact on the future of biomanufacturing. We’re pleased to highlight our productive collaborations with industry leaders: bespark*bio in advanced viral vector manufacturing, SimVantage for bioprocess scale-up, and QUBICON for streamlined data management and automated process control. Finally, it was great to see the progress of enGenes Biotech GmbH for next generation biomanufacturing using their proprietary eXpress/eXtra technology to allow, for the first time, to continuously produce products from E.coli for over months! Also the OF2i analyzer from BRAVE Analytics GmbH attracted significant attention from the audience. Together, we’re pushing the boundaries of biotechnological innovation. We are further looking forward tot the rising stars Rita Mota and Daniela Wucsits and their technology. Stay tuned. We extend our congratulations to Acib on hosting such a valuable event. We could learn a lot about substantial bioproduction, alternative cultivation strains and pandemic preparedness and speed to market.
