Salzburg Global Seminar

Today I had the distinct honor of speaking to all attendees of Salzburg Global Seminar ‘s Salzburg Academy on Media and Global Change. My presentation “Storytelling for an age of information anxiety” consisted of an interactive portion dedicated to deconstructing the concept of information anxiety and thinking about strategies for individuals to deal with it. At the end, I showed a work in progress about our oceans. This forthcoming work is a continuation of One Water - a film that was completed in 2007 but continues to have a life of its own through support from educational organizations like Pratham Education Foundation among many others. While the session generated good engagement with peers and students alike, I was reassured once again that my primary audience happens to be children. Academy director Paul Mihailidis ‘s son Will, who is seven, was in the audience and watched the film very closely. After the event was over, he walked up and presented me with his artwork pictured here.

This time, last week, we were celebrating #SalzburgGlobalDay at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron with friends, Fellows, staff, and supporters. Some of our returning Fellows were able to reminisce, reconnect, and relive some of their #SalzburgGlobal memories. Newer Fellows, meanwhile, were given a greater introduction to the organization. The event just so happened to coincide with the start of this year's program of the Salzburg Academy on Media and Global Change! Music, food (including toasted marshmallows), sparklers, and perfect weather—we couldn't have asked for a better evening. We'd like to thank everyone who participated and attended. I have been affiliated with the Salzburg Global Seminar since 2011; a much younger fellow from Egypt branching out her networks more globally, and who had never been to Austria. 14 years, four seminars as a participant, panelist, and co-organizer, and so so many pictures with the lake later, i can vouch for the professional growth, the enriching discussions, and the amount of friends i have had and made being in the walls of that palace. I am forever grateful to the Seminar for the growth it continues to impact professionals globally, and I can not wait for more shared collaborations. Happy 77th Salzburg Global Seminar. Salzburg Global Seminar afforded me an open forum to engage with the global community, and I firmly believe that this model should be applied to the advertising industry to foster social change. The "Towards Change" project is our initial endeavour in this direction. It was rewarding to kick off the civic engagement process for creating advertisements at the Salzburg Global Seminar in 2023. Taking time out from my extensive work schedule in the summer of 2023, this opportunity presented a fantastic trial and learning experience.
