With safeguards set to expire in 2026, the question remains: How should the EU protect its steel industry from unfair trade? SMR surveyed key industry players—producers, distributors, and exporters—to understand their perspectives: ➡️ EU Producers strongly support extending safeguards to counter global overcapacity. ➡️ EU Distributors are split—some value protection, others seek greater import flexibility. ➡️Exporters to EU from Asia and India favor fewer restrictions to maintain market access. This week, our Managing Director, Markus Moll, had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Prominox Customer Conference and Exhibition in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. With 120 Prominox fabricators and customers in attendance, the event provided a valuable platform for industry leaders to connect, share insights, and discuss the future of stainless steel in Mexico. As the leading stainless steel distributor with 15 locations and two service centers across the United States, Prominox remains at the forefront of the industry. Markus Moll had the opportunity to present his outlook on the stainless steel market, with a particular focus on Mexico. His insights were especially timely given the challenges posed by U.S. government import duties and trade restrictions. With ongoing uncertainty in trade policies, Mexican producers, distributors, and consumers are navigating a rapidly evolving landscape that requires adaptability and resilience.
