Glaciers tell the story of our warming worlds 🌡️ This #WorldMeteorologicalDay, we recognise the urgency of protecting our planet's icy landscapes. #SPARCCLE #HorizonEU #Climate #Resilience #Europe
Info
Climate | Resilience | Europe SPARCCLE is a research project dedicated to understanding risks of climate change to the society and economy of Europe. SPARCCLE will support people, organizations and government make better decisions to reduce risks and build resilience to climate change. Socioeconomic Pathways, Adaptation, and Resilience to a Changing CLimate in Europe. The SPARCCLE project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement No 101081369 (SPARCCLE), UKRI and SERI.

As the planet gets hotter due to climate change, our frozen world is shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable and extreme. Together, let's protect our frozen reserves. #WorldWaterDay #SPARCCLE #HorizonEU #Climate #Resilience #Europe

From fruits, nuts & honey to edible insects & mushrooms, forests are nature's supermarkets, offering essential nutrients that sustain millions of people. This year on 21st March we celebrate #ForestDay with the theme 'Forests and foods'! #SPARCCLE #HorizonEU #Climate #Resilience #Europe

SPARCCLE hat dies direkt geteilt
The SPARCCLE project brings together researchers from across Europe to deliver adaptation and mitigation strategies for a just and climate resilient Europe, as well as support policymaking for action on the socioeconomic risks that climate change brings. Their latest workshop was led by IIASA researcher Marina Andrijevic and featured a presentation by Energy, Climate, and Environment Program Director, Keywan Riahi 👇
#SPARCCLE researcher Marina Andrijevic led the organisation of the ‘Adaptation Pathways and Scenarios for Climate Change Research’ Workshop, held from 17th to 21st February at the Lorentz Center in Leiden, Netherlands. 🇳🇱 The event brought together around 40 interdisciplinary experts to collaboratively develop tools 🛠️ and bridge knowledge gaps 🔍 in global climate impact assessments. The workshop set the stage for at least eight research articles 📚 to be developed for a special issue of a journal, continuing the momentum of the discussions and aiming to feed into broader ongoing processes such as ScenarioMIP, the 7th Assessment Report cycle of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC, and EU-wide adaptation planning led by DG-CLIMA. 🔎 Want to learn more? We are pleased to welcome Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin to the #SPARCCLE consortium! Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is one of the 20 largest universities in Germany and one of the most renowned universities worldwide. Its IRI THESys - Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems is a partner organisation of the SPARCCLE project and is responsible for leading stakeholder engagement processes. At IRI THESys, researchers across disciplines investigate the dynamically interwoven ecological and social change in the Anthropocene with a focus on five themes and their interconnectedness: land use change, integrative food systems, global water cycles, climate change adaptation, and energy and infrastructures. Welcome aboard! #HumboldtUniversität #HorizonEU #Climate #Resilience #Europe

This International Women’s Day 👩🔬👩🏫, we highlight the critical link between gender equality and climate action. Our latest study shows that climate solutions are more effective when #gender equality is part of the equation. By integrating gender dynamics into #climate scenarios, we can develop more effective and just solutions for the challenges ahead. On #IWD2025, we take the opportunity to envision different worlds – ones where women have equal opportunities and resources, but also others where their rights are at risk of backsliding. Special thanks to #SPARCCLE researcher Marina Andrijevic for advancing this important research! Find out more: https://lnkd.in/ddWVDDfY

Healthy ecosystems are powerful allies in the fight against climate change – forests, wetlands, and oceans absorb carbon, regulate temperatures, and protect us from extreme weather. Yet, climate change threatens these very ecosystems, putting both wildlife and people at risk. As part of the #SPARCCLE project, we identify risks to ecosystems from climate change and develop sustainable land use and forestry pathways in support of EU climate mitigation and adaptation efforts. SPARCCLE hat dies direkt geteilt
I spent the last five days in the cute town of Leiden, in a fantastic company of adaptation experts, modellers, economists, health, governance and policy experts, who have put in huge amounts of brainpower to advance the link between scenarios like SSPs-RCPs, and adaptation planning tools like the dynamic adaptation planning pathways. What did we do? ✔️ Came up with different principles that could organise our view on adaptation ✔️ Worked hard in thematic groups to develop adaptation pathways for health, agriculture, water and coasts, and understand how the SSP-RCP framework affects the solution space ✔️ Came up paper ideas and brainstormed on the research agenda and new opportunities ✔️ Discussed endlessly to reconcile terminology ✔️ Drank enough coffee to exhaust an industry-grade coffee machine ✔️ Made new friends A huge thanks to the Lorentz Center and their amazing staff + Deltares + SPARCCLE + Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München for their generous support! It’s been a true privilege to work with you all and hope to see you soon again: Peter Berry, Robbert Biesbroek, Palok Biswas, Kathryn Bowen, Halvard Buhaug, Edward Byers, Tim Carter, William Cheung, Valeria Di Fant, Simon Gosling, Sherilee Harper, Jochen Hinkel, Jan Kwakkel, Judy Lawrence, Anna Lipsanen, Rosanne Martyr, Reinhard Mechler, Marta Olazabal, anand patwardhan, Simona Pedde, Ann-Kathrin J.
