UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in Vienna official page. Liaison, disarmament education, dialogue.
Info
The Vienna Office is one of the offices of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) away from its headquarters in New York. The activities undertaken by the Vienna Office contribute to the realization of the mission and vision of UNODA and are based on its dual role of liaison office and hub for disarmament education. In its liaison capacity, the Office represents UNODA vis-à-vis Vienna-based institutions and processes and promotes the work of UNODA across its various mandated functions. As UNODA’s hub for disarmament education, the Vienna Office supports the strategic direction and effective implementation of UNODA’s educational efforts guided by an “inform, engage, educate and empower” approach. The Office’s global e-learning platform, the Disarmament Education Dashboard, hosts self-paced and instructor-led free online training courses on a wide range of topics related to disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control. Those successfully completing a course are awarded with an e-certificate which they can share on LinkedIn to boost their professional profile. In addition, the Office promotes awareness-raising and dialogue on timely issues. The Office’s Vienna Conversation Series is a recurring forum for the disarmament and non-proliferation community and eminent stakeholders, as well as other interested audiences, including academia, civil society organizations, media, private sector and youth. These hybrid events aim at exchanging ideas and fostering discussion. As such, the activities undertaken by the Vienna Office contribute to advancing broader global frameworks, including the Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals; the Women, Peace and Security Agenda; and the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda. 📽 Such a pleasure to join UNIS Vienna again for a Cine-ONU screening, co-organized by the Embassy of Colombia in Vienna! We watched "Cuando Las Aguas Se Juntan: A story of women and peace" to mark the International Day of Peace. Our Chief, Rebecca Jovin, underlined the critical role of women in disarmament processes, the work of our regional office UNLIREC and United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA)'s multi-year collaboration with the Austrian Ministry of Defense. Looking forward to future film screenings at TOP Kino! 📸 Photo credits: UNIS Vienna 💡 More info on Cine-ONU screenings: https://lnkd.in/d6jk6inm

We were excited to receive this group of industry and business professionals from China as part of an awareness-raising and training programme on arms and export control and non-proliferation. The programme is organised by Saferworld and the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA), passing by several crucial organisations in Vienna these next few days. Glad we could have this exchange about UNODA’s work and global disarmament and arms control efforts!
