The Australian Association for Uncrewed Systems (AAUS) and the Australian Certified UAV Operators (ACUO) have today announced an exciting new chapter for the uncrewed systems industry in Australia, uniting under a single banner to better represent and advocate for the sector. Effective immediately, AAUS will serve as the peak body for the uncrewed systems industry, while ACUO, after years of valuable contributions, will formally cease operations. This unification signifies a strengthened and single voice for the Australian uncrewed systems industry, bringing together the collective expertise, advocacy, and resources of both organisations. AAUS, as the recognised leader in the sector, will continue to drive policy, innovation, and industry development, while preserving the legacy and contributions of ACUO. “We are proud to announce this new phase for Australia’s uncrewed systems industry,” said Reece Clothier, President of AAUS. “By uniting with ACUO, we are creating a stronger, more cohesive body that will be better positioned to champion the interests of our members and drive forward the growth of this dynamic industry.” Founded in 2009, ACUO has been instrumental in the development of Australia’s UAV operations, setting standards and advocating for the safe and responsible use of UAVs across various sectors. ACUO’s legacy is one of pioneering professionalism and shaping the early stages of the industry’s regulation and acceptance within Australia. “We pay tribute to ACUO and its members for their tireless work in advocating for operators and the industry as a whole,” continued Dr Clothier. “Their legacy will live on through the ongoing work of AAUS, and we are committed to continuing the tradition of excellence they have established.” Brad Mason, one of the seven founding members of ACUO, said, “We are all quietly proud of the foundations we laid. I want to personally thank all the ACUO management committee members over the years who volunteered their time for us and the development of our industry.” “The Australian RPAS industry is incredibly innovative and the pace of development such that our consolidation is a logical next step to industry growth. I’m pleased to see the two organisations finally unite and I’m keen to see now what we can achieve together.” As part of the unification, two of ACUO’s current committee members Aaron McKay and Danny Elassad will join AAUS. Aaron, Managing Director and Owner of Aus Aerial Media will take a vacant seat on the AAUS Board. #RPAS #advocacy #uncrewedsystems #unification #AAM #innovation Reece Clothier Anthony Patterson Leigh Simpson Andrew Crowe Paul Hardy Renee Bartolo Vic Grosjean, MEng Mitch Deam Keirin Joyce Natasha Santha Philip van der Burg Warren Ludwig Aaron McKay Danny Elassad Jonathan King Brad Mason Joe U. In a positive move for industry Airservices Australia and Wisk have this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding to help both organisations gain insights into the future airspace management needs of Advanced Air Mobility operations, such as air taxis, The arrangement will enable aerospace manufacturer, Wisk, to share expertise which will pave the way for safe advanced air travel in the coming decades. As part of this MOU, Airservices Australia will be conducting a series of workshops and simulations aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of how Advanced Air Mobility systems will seamlessly integrate with Airservices systems into the national airspace. You can read more about the partnership on the Airservices Australia website https://lnkd.in/grZkhuzr
Autonomous air mobility (AAM) firm Wisk has signed an agreement with Airservices to explore the integration of air taxis into Australia’s airspace. The memorandum of understanding will see Wisk, a subsidiary of Boeing, and Airservices collaborate and share expertise on AAM, with an estimated one million air taxi flights per year expected by 2043. Wisk is aiming to have air taxis in Brisbane by the 2032 Olympic Games. https://lnkd.in/g8xgMREV

Thank you so much to Jackie Dujmovic and her team at Hover UAV for opening their facility yesterday to students and industry. It was a fantastic evening for everyone involved. It was amazing to see Hover's new risk assesment tool SORA-Mate in action. Thank you to Dylan Bishop for his presentation explaining the SORA process and showcase how SORA-Mate can be used to streamline the SORA Risk Assessments for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations. Keep an eye on our socials and website for future networking events. #networking #memberevents #bvlos #SORAmate #drones #rpas #approvalprocesses
What a fun-filled evening we had last night at the AAUS - Australian Association for Uncrewed Systems networking event hosted by Hover UAV! Industry professionals, students, and entrepreneurs came together to mingle, share ideas, and have a blast. We were especially thrilled to welcome Christopher Hills, who travelled from the Sunshine Coast to show off his drone simulator. His innovative approach to using a single input to control all aspects of drone operation had everyone fascinated! But the fun didn’t stop there! Luke Chaplain from SkyKelpie also displayed his agricultural-focused simulator, designed for drone mustering and stockmanship. And don’t worry—no cows were harmed during the course of the evening. On top of all that, Hover UAV’s very own Dylan Bishop gave an insightful presentation on SORA-Mate, a powerful online automated tool helping streamline the SORA process. It was a real highlight for those keen to explore more about drone compliance. A big thank you must also go to Brett Glosko and Sue Osborn for sharing their experiences within the industry and highlighting to CERT III in Aviation students pathways forward within this ever evolving sector. We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended and made the night as enjoyable as it was. Here’s to more fun, learning, and drone-filled adventures! RPAS BVLOS Opportunity Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) has released an Expression of Interest (EOI) for organisations to participate in an RPAS BVLOS trial project. FRV has initiated a project to study the possible utilisation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in Beyond-Visual-Line-Of-Sight (BVLOS) situations, to support the management of fire, rescue and other emergency incidents. The project includes a major, one-off operational trial where it is planned that RPAS will be deployed BVLOS to simulated emergency incidents. It is planned that the outcomes of the operational trial will, ultimately: guide the development and implementation of practices and procedures to underpin and facilitate safe and effective use of BVLOS RPAS to support the management of actual fire, rescue and emergency events; and inform future decisions regarding the selection and utilisation of RPAS capabilities to support the management of actual fire, rescue and emergency events in the future. FRV are holding industry briefings this Thursday, September 19 at 1.30pm (AEDT) For more information: https://lnkd.in/gvqbEQBf Submissions are due on Friday 11 October 2024.
