Since 26 August 2024, eligible Australian employees have had the right to disconnect from employment related contact outside of work hours. While the Act does not prevent employers from contacting employees outside of working hours, employees have the right to refuse this contact unless that refusal is unreasonable. Today is World Mental Health Day, and the theme this year is mental health in the workplace. Weaponised incompetence is a subtle yet damaging behaviour in the workplace where individuals feign ignorance or lack of skill to avoid tasks or responsibilities. For many, this will be a very familiar concept. It can impact on productivity, working relationships, employee engagement and retention.
