Harrisia cactus is spreading across Qld and NSW, causing hospitalisations, killing animals and taking over productive land 🌱 With no sure-fire eradication option available, affected landholders are calling for more research and funding. Read more 👉 https://okt.to/XtYLN2 This month, AgForce joined forces with NSW DPI to nominate this species as a Weed of National Significance (WoNS). Kudos to our member Trish Hawkins for her significant efforts in collating information to support the nomination of both Harrissa and Willows Cactus. Crossing our fingers and toes that it gets the nod – WoNS listing could see much needed increase in efforts to combat this invader. #everyfamilyneedsafarmer 📷 credit: Brandon Long, ABC

Market access and cost margins were among the top-of-mind issues for the AgForce Queensland cattle board members spending the day as our guests at Cannon Hill. Representing cattle producers from across Queensland, the group was given a guided tour of our processing facility by ACC’s R&D manager Paul G Gibson. “It was the first time we have hosted this group, and we trust their visit was insightful,” he said. “Connections within the wider beef industry are fundamental to the ACC business." #beef #queenslandbeef #agriculture Anthony Lee Tony Perrett MP Meat & Livestock Australia Australian Meat Processor Corporation Susan McDonald

Japanese encephalitis (JE) detections in Australia 🦟 There have been recent detections of JE in Vic, NSW and Qld. JE is a zoonotic disease spread by mosquitoes that can cause reproductive issues in pigs and neurological signs in horses, such as lack of coordination, difficulty swallowing and impaired vision. Reducing exposure to infected mosquitoes is the key to avoiding JEV for yourself and your animals. If you suspect an animal is showing signs of the disease, you must report it to either a local veterinarian or call the Emergency Animal Disease hotline on 1800 675 888 📞 https://okt.to/utAVse #everyfamilyneedsafarmer #horses #pigs
