APRA AMCOS has been representing songwriters, composer and publishers since 1926. We have over 124,000 members.

About us

APRA AMCOS is Australasia’s leading music rights management organisation representing songwriters, composers and publishers since 1926. With more than 119,000 members across Australia and New Zealand, our membership includes the very best and brightest of established and emerging musical talent at home and around the globe. We administer rights on their behalf, supporting songwriters, composers and publishers in an industry that is a flagship of culture and creativity, generating billions of dollars each year for the Australian and New Zealand economies. We are affiliated with similar collective management organisations around the world. So when Australian and New Zealand songs and compositions are played overseas, Australian and New Zealand writers get paid. We also help music customers in Australia and New Zealand access music from the rest of the world. APRA, the Australasian Performing Right Association Limited (APRA) was established in 1926 to manage the performance and communication rights of its members. This covers music that is communicated or performed publicly including on radio, television, online, live gigs in pubs and clubs etc. AMCOS, the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society Limited (AMCOS) was established in 1979 to manage “mechanical royalties”, that is, the reproduction or copying and storage of music in different formats. This covers copying of songs and compositions by record labels or other parties to sell them on CD, DVD, online, for use as production music and for radio/TV programs. Today APRA AMCOS is one organisation that covers all these rights and uses of music, for both local and international songs, for the benefit of music creators and music customers.

Global creators’ collections are up 7.6% to a new high of EUR13.1 billion in 2023. The increase was driven by continued steady growth in digital income and a strong recovery in live concerts and public performance, which became the last sector to recover fully from the pandemic. The International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) has published its 2024 Global Collections Report, providing comprehensive data and analysis of collections across all repertoires, including music, audiovisual, visual arts, literature and drama. Vale Diana Torossian We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of music industry veteran, Diana Torossian. Torossian was a huge supporter of local music and managed some of Australia’s biggest songwriters through her company, DT Talent Management, including Sarah Aarons, Lindsay Rimes, David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii (DNA), who wrote hits for The Veronicas, Samantha Jade, Dami Im, Jessica Mauboy and Delta Goodrem, to name a few. Prior to going independent, she worked for a number of major record labels and was manager of A&R and Licensing at BMG Music Publishing, signing some of Australia’s most successful songwriters like Baby Animals, Hoodoo Gurus and Diesel. Dean Ormston, CEO of APRA AMCOS, says: “Di was an incredible force, finding and nurturing some of Australia’s most prolific songwriters. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this difficult time, and to all of our songwriter members who had the benefit of working with such a powerhouse talent.” Image courtesy of Anthony Egizii

🗣️ Björn Ulvaeus, President of CISAC, speaks about the impact of AI on copyright and human rights in the 2024 Global Collections Report: "I have always believed we can only ever embrace new technology, not try and stop it - but there is a rock-solid caveat: this must never be at the cost of compromising copyright and human rights." ➡️ Learn more today: https://lnkd.in/dKu2wJqM #cisac #royalties #music #creators #audiovisual #digital #collectivemanagement #copyright #musicnews #musicbusiness
