This week's Workshop Wednesday features the brilliant new cafe at our Ottoway Skills Centre: Pat's Cafe. Officially opened on October 16, students and staff are flocking to the cafe and enjoying the convenience of having an on-site cafe serving up a selection of snacks, barista-quality coffee, hot meals, salads, and more! Run by the incredible Xpress Cafe crew, the cafe offers a wide range of mouth-watering items. Dine-in or takeaway options are available, and there is plenty of indoor seating. Opening the cafe strives to enhance mental health, ensuring ATEC staff and apprentices have access to a comfortable environment for meal breaks & a wide range of menu items. Huge congratulations are extended to ATEC’s GTO Field Officer - Ryan Mcmurtrie, who recently participated in a gruelling Ironman endurance event in Queensland - coming 8th in his age group. Just finishing would be enough for most of us!! The Coolangatta Gold – or Cooly Gold (as it’s known) is a renowned endurance event where Aussie’s top surf lifesavers swim, paddle, surf ski and run. Ryan completed an impressive 21km of surf sports endurance action, including 10.5km on a surf ski, a 2km swim, 3km of paddle boarding and a 5.5 km run. The event is conducted through Surf Lifesaving Australia and held annually at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast. Ryan is involved with South Australia’s Grange Surf Lifesaving Club and competed in the 30-39 age group. Well done Ryan, you’re an inspiration!! #inspiration #healthylifestyle #goldcoast

🎉 Big News from ATEC! 🎉 During August, our incredible ATEC GTO electrical apprentices made waves at the NECA SA/NT Apprentice Awards, snagging third place, runner-up, and the top spot in the Industrial Award category!🏆✨ We have more exciting news about the overall winner of the 2024 NECA SA/NT Electrical - Industrial Apprentice of the Year – ATEC apprentice Mack Fielke! Not only did Mack win the top spot, but he's also been selected as one of 25 of Australia’s most promising apprentices and trainees for the prestigious National Apprentice Employment Network’s 'Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders program'! 🚀 From November 3-8, Mack will join other outstanding apprentices in Canberra for a week-long intensive program designed to nurture future leaders. The event will be officially launched by the Governor-General, Her Excellency, the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, and focuses on honing leadership skills and personal strengths. This week’s Workshop Wednesday features a visit from Blair Boyer MP Minister for Education, Training and Skills together with Cameron Baker, South Australian Skills Commissioner to our Lonsdale Skills Centre.   Their visit coincided with the announcement of equipment and capital grants to boost training facilities in areas of need. Eligible training organisations can now apply for a grant of up to $250,000 to contribute to new equipment and better training facilities that align with South Australia’s priority training needs. Read more https://lnkd.in/g-_ciZba   The Skills Commissioner and Education Minister enjoyed a quick tour of our Lonsdale Skills Centre, stopping to chat with third-year carpentry apprentices in the construction workshop. They were also keen to see progress made on ATEC’s Carpentry Centre of Excellence (COE). Work has started on the COE marking a significant milestone for ATEC and the SA construction industry. We are grateful for the support of the South Australian government and look forward to being able to offer additional carpentry apprenticeships.
