This month the Hanrine Smiles program brought much needed dental education and screenings to the remote Community Schools of Jigalong and Nullagine, and Newman Primary School. Amazingly, for some of the 180 children who were screened, it was their very first ever dental check-up. Four final-year dental students with their tutor, hit the Marble Bar Road over four days with the HanRoy Community Team to deliver their expertise where it is needed most. Importantly, children at the community schools who required follow up were shuttled to the Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service in Newman for treatment. A big thank you to the principals and staff at each school for again welcoming the Hanrine Smiles team with open arms. An extra special thank you goes to Jilen Patel, Senior Lecturer at The University of Western Australia (UWA) Dental School and Specialist Paediatric Dentist at Perth Children’s Hospital, for making the trip up to ensure everything went smoothly. This three-year collaboration (with twice yearly visits) between the UWA Dental School and the Hanrine Foundation is designed to make real impact —one smile at a time 😁!

The Hanrine Foundation is pleased to announce its $1 million commitment to Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (PCHF) over the next five years to support the Rare Care Centre’s Pilbara Hub initiative. This initiative builds on a history of successful health collaborations including Pilbara Faces, Pilbara Voices, Lyfe Languages, and Pilbara DNA. By expanding access to specialised healthcare for children with rare diseases, it aims to address the unique needs of the Pilbara. Internationally renowned Children’s Rare Care expert, Professor Dr Gareth Bayman, who is also a member of the Foundation’s Health Working Group, was delighted with the commitment. “Together we can transform lives of children and families living with the cumulatively common rare diseases in the Pilbara. And, through that, we can create a blueprint to help children and families in other remote regions, in Western Australia, nationally and internationally. Helping children and families living with rare disease is a grand, global and urgent child health and well-being challenge.” Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Carrick Robinson, also heralded the project. "We are so grateful for the Hanrine Foundation’s generous $1 million commitment to developing the Rare Care Centre Pilbara Hub. This investment will help us deliver world-class care to thousands of vulnerable children and families across the Pilbara, particularly those from Aboriginal communities, who face the unique challenge of living with rare and undiagnosed diseases in regional and remote Western Australia.” In this photo L-R Tony Pilbrow of Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (Chair of Health Working Group), Dr Gareth Baynam of Rare Care, Sanjiv Manchanda of HanRoy (Chair of Hanrine Foundation) and Carrick Robinson (CEO Perth Children's Hospital Foundation).

The Newman Community Christmas Party was an incredible success, marked by the distribution of nearly 180 gifts, which brought joy to over 180 children and young people. The swimming pool premises were alive with the excitement of parents and children, and the atmosphere was filled with happiness and cheer, especially with the special appearance of Santa Claus. Aimable Ndayieye, PAMS’ Director of Community Health Program shares, “It was deeply heartwarming to witness the glowing faces of children as they received their Christmas gifts, some for the very first time in their lives. Moments like these truly capture the spirit of the season.” One of the standout highlights of the day was the dedication of our health team: Dr. Sue, Nurse Zoe, and CHN Holli who conducted 10 full health checks during the event. Their commitment is part of a broader effort that has seen 25 comprehensive health checks and referrals completed just this week, an outstanding achievement. A particularly touching moment was captured in a photograph showing Dr. Sue measuring a child, assisted by the child’s empowered and smiling father. Seeing Martu men actively involved in their children’s health is truly inspiring and sets a wonderful example. The event also featured food for everyone, music, swimming, basketball, and a variety of fun activities for kids, ensuring there was something for all to enjoy. This success would not have been possible without the generous contributions and support of our funders, especially the Telethon Kids Institute and partners: the Shire of East Pilbara, Roy Hill, The Y, the Newman Youth Centre, Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ), and Pilbara EPIS, whose elders brought so much joy to the little ones.

The Hanrine Foundation has proudly launched the Hanrine Smiles 😁 initiative in partnership with the The University of Western Australia (UWA) Dental School. Over the next three years, this transformative program will deliver vital dental care and oral health education in the Pilbara. As part of UWA's rural and remote placements, final-year dental students, supervised by experienced dentists, will conduct screenings in select schools. Children needing further care will be identified for follow up treatment with local Aboriginal Medical Services. The Hanrine Foundation has collaborated with a wide Pilbara network to ensure the best chance for timely treatment is received. Hanrine Smiles is about more than just dental services. It's about building trust, improving access to care, and equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools to maintain long-term oral health. For the dental students, it offers invaluable frontline experience, preparing the next generation of dentists to make a meaningful impact in rural and remote areas of Western Australia.   At the Hanrine Foundation, we’re proud to support even brighter, healthier, confident smiles in the Pilbara.    FIRST group image: Dr @Jilen Patel (Senior Lecturer UWA Dental School HanRoy) Professor Robert Anthonappa (Dean of UWA Dental School), Sanjiv Manchanda (CEO HanRoy, Chair of the Hanrine Foundation), Tony Pilbrow (Director Branch Operations Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia, Chair of Health working group Hanrine Foundation) SECOND group image: Sanjiv Manchanda (Chair of the Hanrine Foundation) Andrew Pickford, Danielle van Kampen, Jyoti Arora (Hanrine Foundation Secretariat), Mitchell Wells , Genevieve Glenister, Tony Pilbrow, Hugh Dawkins (Hanrine Foundation Health Working Group Members) #HanrineFoundation #UWADentalSchool #Hanroy #Atlas #RoyHill #Hitachi #Health #DentalHealth

When mining does well, Australia does well. But when mining doesn't do well, nor do Australians. National Mining and Related Industries Day is a day to celebrate the significance of our mining and related industries. Our owners, staff and contractors are proud of our significant economic and community contribution. First launched in 2013 on November 22 by Co-Patrons Mrs Gina Rinehart AO and Mr Tad Watroba to celebrate the enormous contribution of our mining and related industries, and to remind those in the mining industry to be proud of their industry, and to stand up for it constantly. #NationalMiningDay #RoyHill #Mining

  • Congratulations to CEO Operations Gerhard Veldsman on being named 2024 CEO of the Year (Energy & Mining) at the CEO Magazine Executive of the Year Awards in Sydney. As CEO of Hancock Prospecting iron ore operations he is responsible for the performance of Roy Hill and Atlas Iron Pty Ltd. Alongside Executive Chairman, Dr Gina Rinehart AO, Mr Veldsman has overseen record levels of production and established a culture where Veterans, women, and regional residents can excel, reinforcing that ‘when mining does well, Australia does well. But when mining doesn’t do well, nor do Australians’. In accepting the award, Mr Veldsman said: “Our operational performance has been exceptional; however, our achievements are not solely about my role as CEO, they stem from the efforts of all our employees and the leadership of Mrs Rinehart who empowers us as an organisation to achieve significant outcomes and returns.” “A thriving mining, and broader business sector, is critical to our way of life and quality of living, yet we are increasingly killing the golden goose with increasing duplication and onerous tape." This well-deserved recognition adds to the COO of the Year Award presented to Mr Veldsman in 2020 and caps a year in which Roy Hill was named Australian Mine of the Year for a second straight year. #RoyHill #AtlasIron #HancockProspecting #ExecutiveOfTheYear #TheCEOMagazine

  • Today marked an exciting and important milestone with the official turning of first soil for our newest iron ore mine – McPhee Creek. Our Executive Chairman, Mrs Rinehart, HanRoy CEO, Sanjiv Manchanda and staff from Roy Hill, HanRoy and Atlas Iron were on site this afternoon for a special sod-turning ceremony. Once operational, ore from McPhee will be transported to and processed at Roy Hill where it can be blended to improve product mix and sustain Roy Hill’s production volumes, extending the life of mine for our fantastic employees and adding to the billions of dollars in royalties and taxes paid to Australian governments.
