Last week, the SNAICC - National Voice for our Children and The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Corporation (NATSIEC) signed Partnership Agreements with the department. These exciting partnerships formalise how SNAICC and NATSIEC will work in partnership with the department on initiatives affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families throughout early childhood education and care, primary and secondary schooling, skills and training, and higher education sectors. Each agreement recognises the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures, acknowledging the importance of working in partnership to reform and enrich education systems, opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The department recognises the importance of National Close the Gap Day and remains committed to embedding all Closing the Gap Priority Reforms and achieving education outcomes, as outlined in the agreements. It’s Global Recycling Day! Did you know that two thirds of used tyres in Australia end up in landfill, are stockpiled or illegally dumped? Deakin University’s Recycling and Clean Energy Commercialisation Hub (REACH) and CERG are working together to bring new life to old tyres by converting them into hydrogen, electricity and other reusable resources. This is just one of the many research projects underway to reduce waste in Australia. University of Melbourne researchers have partnered with Carbon Cybernetics Group Limited to commercialise an implantable device that can monitor brain activity with high precision. Their aim is to predict and prevent epileptic seizures, which could also lead to a breakthrough in effectively treating depression and anxiety without the use of drugs.
