We were thrilled to host you at our briefing last week with The Rt Hon. the Lord Spellar, UK Trade Envoy to Australia! 🌏 Our Friday boardroom lunch at the British Consulate was another thoroughly engaging event with incoming Trade Envoy Lord Spellar, the last of his meet-and-greet tour across the continent. Chamber Members from the defence, infrastructure, energy transition, health, and political sectors gathered for a wide-ranging discussion on the day the Federal Election was announced, followed by an excellent opportunity for networking. Continuing the post-Budget dialogue, we were delighted to hear from Paul Bloxham, Chief Economist, Australia, New Zealand Global Commodities, HSBC, in Adelaide. As one of the most sought-after voices across the Australian economy, Paul's analysis offered crucial insights to our South Australian guests. With the 2025-26 Budget handed down just days before, Paul broke down the complexities and government priorities with remarkable clarity. Thanks as always to Paul, and to our fantastic hosts Nathan Foulis, State Manager - SA, and John Dyson, General Manager, Mott MacDonald. We are particularly chuffed with the new MM socks! 🧦

Less than 12 hours after Treasurer Jim Chalmers handed down the Albanese Government’s 4th Budget, 200 guests gathered at Parliament of NSW to hear an expert dissection from HSBC's rockstar Chief Economist for Australia, New Zealand and Global Commodities, Paul Bloxham. The energy in the room was palpable, as Paul outlined the winners and losers in this year’s budget. Tax cuts, tariffs, productivity and policy reform were all laid out, with Paul again calling for structural changes to drive productivity growth. We then jumped into a firecracker of a panel with Nicola Wakefield Evans, AM, Guardian of the Future Fund and Director Extraordinaire of ASX-listed companies; The Hon. Joel Fitzgibbon GAICD, Former Defence Minister and Co-Chair, AUKUS Forum; and Amanda Lampe, Director, Corporate Relations at Diageo. Moderated by our own Chief Executive Ticky Fullerton, the panel dove deeper into the energy rebates, non-compete clauses and cost-of-living initiatives that may be Labor's last big pitch prior to the election! Thanks to our panellists and attendees for joining us, and to our event partners for their support of our annual Budget Breakfast – it wouldn’t be possible without you: Christine Artin, Head of Channels, HSBC; Michael Anderson, Partner - Tax, BDO in Australia; and Andy Young, Chief Operating Officer, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation; ICAEW.
