Australian Prostate Centre impacts the world by developing and validating paradigm-shifting care and treatments for prostate cancer. Prostate Cancer Facts and Statistics • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men* • Prostate cancer kills more men than breast cancer kills women • Australia has the highest incidence of prostate cancer in the world • About 20,000 men are diagnosed each year, the average age of diagnosis is 67 years • 1 in 6 men will develop prostate cancer before the age of 85 • 1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. *(excluding non-melanoma skin cancers) A snapshot of what we do: • We opened Australia’s first public, comprehensive prostate cancer and men’s health centre in Melbourne • We run the world’s only international prostate cancer congress • We collaborate nationally and internationally on research projects to develop blueprint models of treatment and care Prostate Cancer Testing: We published the Melbourne Consensus on Prostate Cancer testing, which as a guideline states that men from 40 onwards benefit from a Prostate-Specific Antigen Test (PSA Test) Education: We conduct the Asia-Pacific Prostate Cancer Conference in August each year visit www.prostatecancerconference.org.au for further information.

  • Garry James, Chairman of Freemasons Foundation Victoria recently announced more than $800,000 in funding for projects that improve the lives and opportunities of Victorians. RULE Prostate Cancer and the Australian Prostate Centre are proud recipients of part of this funding for PROSFIT, our evidence-based exercise program for men with prostate cancer. Targeted exercise is a very effective way to manage side effects from treatment and is accessible to everyone at our Centre. Novel therapies for the treatment of advanced disease have seemed to multiply exponentially. The conference will focus on the latest innovations in prostate cancer research, including the advancement of precision medicine and targeted therapies, the integration of artificial intelligence in the diagnostic algorithm and treatment pathways and the development of next generation imaging techniques. We will explore the potential of genomics and immunotherapy in managing prostate cancer, as well as role of theranostics, treatment sequencing and treatment intensification.
