Solar cells have powered satellites for decades, but they’re a lot slower and more expensive to make than the ones on our houses… until now! With support from the Agency’s Moon to Mars Supply Chain grant program – and a bit of silicon magic – Sydney-based Extraterrestrial Power has made a space-grade solar cell thin enough to be mass-produced like terrestrial solar cells. Today Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic MP announced an investment of $3.6 million towards five Australian space projects as part of our Moon to Mars program. This funding will back companies to develop their unique, Aussie-made technologies and get them into global space supply chains.
