Australia and the UAE today signed the Australia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA); a bilateral free trade agreement that will lay the groundwork for closer economic ties. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is Australia's largest trade and investment partner in the Middle East with two-way trade worth $9.9 billion in 2023. CEPA will also support and promote two-way productive foreign direct investment, across 5 priority sectors: - Green and Renewable Energy - Data Centres and AI Projects - Minerals - Food and Agriculture - Infrastructure Development Two-way investment between Australia and the UAE totalled $20.6 billion in 2023. This figure is expected to increase significantly under CEPA. Australia boasts its largest presence at this year’s CIIE with a record 253 iconic Aussie companies attending the 7th China International Import Expo in Shanghai this week. 🇦🇺🇨🇳 Minister for Trade and Tourism, the Hon. Increasing tourism ties with Southeast Asia is vital for the future success of Australia’s #VisitorEconomy. ✈️ The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) showcased opportunities to increase inbound and outbound tourism with countries in the region – particularly Vietnam – at the Meeting Place 2024 #atecmp24 conference hosted by the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) this week; 🇻🇳Vietnam is Australia’s fastest-growing inbound tourism market, with almost 180,000 Vietnamese visitor arrivals to Australia in 2023–24, up 50% on pre-pandemic levels. 🇻🇳More Australians are also travelling to Vietnam, with over 407,000 resident returns from short-term trips to Vietnam in the year to August 2024, up 28% on pre-pandemic levels. Austrade and its partners have been working with the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) to strengthen #AustraliaVietnam tourism ties. The Australian Government has provided funding for many initiatives designed to attract more visitors from Vietnam, including ATEC’s new Vietnam Host online training course; a data report on Australian and Vietnamese visitors from the Griffith Institute for Tourism and VNAT; and a new Strengthening Australia-Vietnam Tourism Cooperation report from Asialink Business.
