Preventing modern slavery by educating, advocating, collaborating and solving this wicked problem together.

About us

We all value our freedom – freedom to choose how we live and work. But not everyone enjoys the same freedom. There are more than 50 million people in slavery around the world and more than 150 million children experiencing child labour. Be Slavery Free is dedicated to ending modern slavery and human trafficking. We understand this wicked problem cannot be solved by any one individual, organisation, government or country. It's a shared responsibility of all global citizens, and can only be solved together. Our mission is to end slavery in all its forms. We believe that businesses have a critical role to play in ending slavery, and we work to empower them to take action. We offer a range of services to businesses, including provision of the best resources and tools to address modern slavery, supply chain risk assessments, training for staff, facilitation of building policies and practices to address modern slavery in supply chains, review of modern slavery statements and more. Be Slavery Free is a coalition of NGO's and like-minded businesses to campaign and advocate for systemic changes that combat modern slavery. Join us and together we can make slavery history.

A living income isn’t a luxury—it’s a basic human right. No cocoa farmer should have to choose between feeding their family or sending their children to school. Yet, for millions of farmers, this is their heartbreaking reality every day. 🍫 While the chocolate industry profits, the people at the heart of it—those who grow the cocoa—are still struggling to survive. By supporting brands that pay a living income, we can change this. Stand with farmers who deserve dignity and a decent life—check the Chocolate Scorecard: https://lnkd.in/drqK3FC6 #BeSlaveryFree #ChocolateScorecard #LivingIncome

Cocoa farming in West Africa is driven by cost-cutting pressures that push farmers deeper into poverty. Paid so little that they can’t afford to hire adult workers, and many are forced to rely on their children for labour. This is the hidden reality behind much of the chocolate we enjoy. By using the Chocolate Scorecard, we can support brands committed to paying a living income and ending child labour. Let’s make better choices that protect farmers and their families this Halloween. 🍫 Make informed choices with the Chocolate Scorecard: https://lnkd.in/drqK3FC6 #BeSlaveryFree #ChocolateScorecard #EndChildLabour #ChildExploitation

It’s not just the costumes that are spooky this season—General Mills, the maker of popular sweets like Häagen-Dazs ice cream and Betty Crocker baked goods, isn’t being transparent about where their cocoa comes from. Without accountability, there’s a risk that forced child labour is lurking in their supply chains. We’re calling on General Mills to clean up their cocoa supply chains and join the Chocolate Scorecard to demonstrate real accountability. Let’s demand they step up and take meaningful action to ensure their cocoa is free from exploitation. Take a stand for cocoa farmers and children—add your voice now! Together, we can ensure that our Halloween treats are sweet for everyone involved. ✍️ Sign the petition: https://lnkd.in/gam4-Nup 👉 Learn about the Chocolate Scorecard: https://lnkd.in/drqK3FC6 #BeSlaveryFree #ChocolateScorecard #GeneralMills #EndChildLabour #EthicalCocoa

No child should ever be exposed to dangerous pesticides while working on cocoa farms. Over a quarter of the 1.5 million children working in West Africa’s cocoa farms are regularly exposed to harmful chemicals, placing them at severe risk of respiratory issues and long-term developmental harm. But through collective action, we can change their future. We envision a world where children are safe from these hazards, thanks to sustainable farming practices that protect children, adult workers, and the environment. Help make cocoa farming safe for everyone. See which brands are leading the way: https://lnkd.in/drqK3FC6 #BeSlaveryFree #ChocolateScorecard #EndChildLabour #Pesticides

In Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, where over 40% of the population lives in poverty, families often have no choice but to put their children to work instead of sending them to school. These children sacrifice their futures to produce the cocoa that goes into many of the chocolates we hand out on Halloween. But we can help change this. By using the Chocolate Scorecard, you can choose chocolate from companies committed to ending child labour and paying farmers a living income. Make this Halloween a time for better choices—for the children and farmers behind the chocolate we enjoy. Today is United Nations’ World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. It's the 11th year of raising awareness this way... but unfortunately, reports of human trafficking and slavery to the AFP have reached an all-time high, following a 12 per cent increase in the 2023-24 financial year. The theme for WDATIP 2024 is ‘Leave no child behind in the fight against human trafficking’, to focus on accelerating global efforts to combat child trafficking. Children make up a big part of trafficking victims worldwide. Identifying and protecting them is difficult due to underreporting and lack of resources. We need better systems tailored to their needs to support victims and hold traffickers accountable. #EndHumanTrafficking #EndModernSlavery #BeSlaveryFree

Today is the UN’s World Day Against Child Labour. Since 2000, for nearly two decades, the world had been making steady progress in reducing child labour. But over the past few years, conflicts, crises and the COVID-19 pandemic, have plunged more families into poverty – and forced millions more children into child labour.  Today, 160 million children are still engaged in child labour. That is almost one in ten children worldwide. Let’s act on our commitments, and end Child Labour. No child should have to work in situations that prevent them from having a childhood. #WDACL #BeSlaveryFree #ChildLabour
