The US Marine Corps has signed a lease for a 73m stern landing vessel (SLV) from Queensland ship designer Sea Transport. The 3-year lease will enable the Marines to assess, evaluate and experiment with the SLV in support of its Force Design objectives and inform future amphibious and littoral manoeuvre requirements and concepts of operations, including that for the huge Landing Ship Medium program. Currently in the final stages of construction, the SLV itself will possess a 550-tonne payload and 4,000nm range. The vessel will be handed over to the Marines in January 2025, whereupon it will commence activities in and around northern Australia and the near region. A nice win for 100% Australian-owned Sea Transport.
