About us

With over 16,500 people across 15 countries, BlueScope is a leading international supplier of steel products and solutions for building and construction markets. Australia’s largest manufacturer, BlueScope’s portfolio of brands includes COLORBOND®, ZINCALUME® and TRUECORE® steels and the LYSAGHT® range of building products. Steel plays a critical role in sustainable development. To BlueScope, sustainability means developing, manufacturing and selling steel products and solutions in a way that provides for a sustainable future, with a focus on continuous improvement, adopting new operating methods and anticipating new products for the future. BlueScope’s long-term growth is underscored by the sustainability of steel and the critical role it will play in supporting a sustainable society. We take a life-cycle approach, looking at the impact of a product over its entire life and focusing on the four principles of a circular economy: reduce, reuse, remanufacture and recycle. Our steel products and services ensure that we contribute to the opportunities and challenges of society’s move to a lower-carbon economy. To deliver long-lasting value and meet the expectations of all of our stakeholders, our business must transform on all fronts. We were excited to contribute to the annual "townhall" meeting by i3net (Illawarra Innovative Industry Network) in Wollongong, which provided an overview of our planned and current projects in Australia. It also gave attendees the opportunity to meet and network with some of our senior managers. Watch a summary video of the event below!   You'll see and hear from Bianca Perry (CEO, i3net) and Lisa Byleveld (Board Member, i3net and General Manager, DBC Group Australia), along with the following BlueScope people who were panellists on the day: Brendan McNally (Unanderra Manufacturing Manager, Orrcon Steel | Manufacturing); Chris Page (Head of Future Technologies); David Scott (General Manager Manufacturing); Greg Baldock (Manager Hot Mills); and Steve Shaw (Group Leader Capital Development and Engineering).   We thank i3net for organising a fantastic event and all attendees for their engagement and questions on the day. In late 2023, communities in Western Australia were reconnected after a crucial bridge on the Kimberley region's only major highway was destroyed in catastrophic floods. Completed six months ahead of schedule, the new Fitzroy River Bridge features BlueScope's REDCOR® weathering steel, which is used in many applications from structural to non-structural applications such as façades, screens, sculptures and noise-wall barriers. Now the longest weathering-steel bridge in Australia, the new crossing marks a significant milestone in the region's recovery and has become a point of pride for local communities.    Join Craig Nealon from our BlueScope media team as he takes us on a journey to explore this significant piece of infrastructure first-hand. Watch the video below to see how this project came to life, thanks to the dedication and innovation of the BlueScope team and our partners.   The Fitzroy Bridge Alliance project was awarded WA Project of the Year at the WA Engineering Excellence Awards on September 18, 2024, and was praised as 'a shining example of engineering excellence'. Read the original media release by Engineers Australia: https://lnkd.in/gerJ_gim   Learn more about REDCOR® weathering steel and additional steel products: https://lnkd.in/ga6fee_w Also, to get a behind-the-scenes view of the manufacturing process, watch our #FocusOn episode about BlueScope Welded Products in Unanderra, NSW: https://lnkd.in/gW9da5ve   We extend our heartfelt thanks to Daniel Davis (Senior Product Manager - Commercial and Civil Construction) and further BlueScope employees across our Australian product innovation and distribution teams for contributing to this story. #BlueScope #CreatingStrength #REDCOR #WeatheringSteel #WA #steel #manufacturing

In partnership with Workplace Learning, Mindflight7, Fizzics Education and the Illawarra Academy of STEM Excellence, we were excited to host a STEM Immersion Day for high school students at the Inside Industry PK Visitor Centre in Port Kembla, Australia. In addition to a tour of our facilities, students had the chance to participate in scientific and VR-based activities, showing how STEM theory can be put into practice in advanced #manufacturing. The program has had a positive impact on students, with some expressing their aspirations to pursue careers in STEM fields like mechanical #engineering, as well as considering cadetships with companies like BlueScope. Watch a highlight video of the event below, featuring testimonials from the following attendees and organisers (in alphabetical order): Andrew Stirling (Organisational Development Business Partner for Manufacturing, BlueScope); Beau Roberts (student); Emma Harris (student); Hannah Sciberras (Science Teacher, Holy Spirit College); Marty Burgess (CEO, Workplace Learning); Michaela Langbridge (student); and Russ Taunton (Illawarra Academy of STEM Excellence). We thank everyone across BlueScope in Australia who participated in our recent activities for #RUOKDay! Watch a video montage of events and get-togethers below, with clips and images submitted by our people.   R U OK? is an Australian charity that promotes public health and encourages everyone to connect meaningfully with the people around them and lend support to those in their world who may be struggling. It's a reminder that a conversation can change a life.   Also, to emphasise that such important conversations shouldn't only be held on one day each year, the video includes footage of a special Rail R U OK?Day that was held in our Cringila Yard at the Port Kembla Steelworks in April of this year. Rolling stock operators assembled to sound their horns in remembrance of lives that have been lost more broadly across the rail sector.   At BlueScope, we're committed to creating a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace that values diversity, inspires creativity, supports capability and reflects the communities where we live and work.
