Meet Tri Nguyen, our senior creative solutions manager and resident noodle expert! 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁? I lead the strategic and creative direction of Broadsheet’s branded content. My days are spent coming up with audience-focused ideas that help brands become a part of contemporary culture. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆? I'm obsessed with Thai food at the moment and happily rotate between Jinda Thai, Tom Toon, and Thai Food Station on Victoria St in Richmond. Jinda Thai for everything, Tom Toon for boat noodles and tom yum and TFS for khao soi and pad kra pao. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼? After watching Kneecap at MIFF, I immediately bought tickets for their live show next year. The Northern Irish rap trio is helping to revive the Irish language through their brutally funny lyrics, which address social issues bluntly and without apology. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? I want to go back to Vietnam next year, but my partner wants to go to Europe again – so I guess we’ll compromise and go to Europe.

If pasta is worth $30, so is char kway teow. For a decade, Sydney chef, restaurateur and cookbook author Junda Khoo has fought the belief that the epic noodle dish should be cheap. “A plate of pasta can easily go for $30 while Ho Jiak’s char kway teow costs $27. Why is everyone complaining about the price of one and not the other?” He says. Read the full opinion piece by Junda Khoo, the owner of Ho Jiak restaurant group here: https://lnkd.in/gMS9rzAM

The latest AdNews Australia Young Gun is Broadsheet's newsletter editor, Holly Bodeker-Smith. The Young Gun profile series highlights rising talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁? I came on board in late 2022 as Broadsheet's directory editor, working on our venue directory and as a coordinator for our editorial intern program. I learnt heaps and it was a real delight. About a year ago, I started working on newsletters, and was recently promoted to newsletter editor. I'll be building out Broadsheet's newsletter strategy and working across a few teams to make them the best in class. I'm excited to get stuck into it. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻? It’s a constant grind, yes, but there’s always something new happening, which keeps me on my toes. A highlight is also getting to work with young writers through our intern program. Read the full interview here - https://lnkd.in/d-GStekt

We took a chef to a self-serve instant noodle bar in Melbourne – this is what he made. We took chef Raymond Tan of CBD bakery Raya and dessert shop Nimbo to Russell Street ramen restaurant Ju Noodle to experiment with the instant classic. Tan had never been to a self-serve instant noodle shop before, so the experience was new for him. Would he go back again? “I think it's a fun party thing you can do with your friends,” he says of the experience. Read about the three bowls Tan made – including Sprite noodles and Pringle mashed potatoes – and his take on each, with words by Audrey Paynehttps://lnkd.in/gsmUnUt2 📸 Kaede James Takamoto

How did a $17.50 cookie become the ultimate social media status symbol? Earlier this week, Sydneysiders lost their collective minds over a pop-up selling Crumbl Cookies – a viral US cookie brand. The Bondi pop-up was met with two-hour wait times and a single cookie was priced at $17.50 (or you could pick up five for $75). But when word spread that the pop-up was "not endorsed by Crumbl, just fans importing" (as stated on the pop-up’s TikTok account), attitudes shifted quickly. “Scheming to bring $6000 worth of cookies into the country in a suitcase for an unofficial pop-up is weird. But is buying a cookie for almost $20 even weirder?” writes Lucy Bell Bird. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eVjDTZeJ

Oatly’s Support Your Local Oat Dealer campaign highlights the unsung heroes of Melbourne’s coffee culture: our local baristas. Here’s how it works: dial 1800-OATFIX to talk live to a local “oat dealer” (that is, a barista). It’s a send-up of a real 1800 number – and just like the real thing, you’ll get a maze of automated options to pick through. You can leave a message, listen to the sound of oats moo-ing, or, redeem a code for a free Oatly coffee at any of these participating local Oat Dealer cafes. Originally just running for a week, the free coffee promo has been extended for seven more days. Thank you to Lucy Lamming, Hazelle Klønhammer at Oatly and our Broadsheet team Nicola Gapper and Gabriella Dolfo.

From red bean paste to revolution, their history stretches back over 3000 years (and sometimes they contain custard). Plus, our top eight picks for mooncakes in Melbourne.
