Through the support of our community we help deliver exceptional patient care to the Canberra region.
About us
Through local community support the Canberra Hospital Foundation transforms away from bed spaces, purchases state-of-the-art treatment technology and equipment, supports research aimed at improving everyday patient care, and funds therapeutic wellness programs for patients. Every year through Canberra Hospital Foundation, the community donations grant more than 100 funding applications from doctors and nurses to provide extra services, advanced treatments and uplifting environments. Canberra Hospital Foundation also coordinates special hospital visits by sporting teams and celebrities and the distribution of more than 7000 comfort items and 5500 Christmas gifts generously donated through our Donation Station.

You can take the girl out of retail, but you can't take the retail out of the girl... isn't that what they say? 🧐 A few weeks ago, I was given an unexpected challenge in my role at the Canberra Hospital Foundation - to help set up, train and deliver a new Lightspeed Commerce point of sale system for the refurbishment of our CHF Gift Shop inside the Canberra Hospital. I've always known that retail would come back into the fold for me professionally. Every place I have worked, it's no surprise to me that my customer service experience and retail training continue to be valuable skills that are interchangeable, regardless of the industry. Being in a NFP organisation now and using these skills hand in hand with my strategic and analytical skills gets me really excited about work. As a creative, it can also baffle me how much I enjoy building systems and processes. These aren't things that most people think go together, but for me, they open up a whole new way of working in a space that can be both. I'm lucky that my current role and supportive team give me the opportunity to explore all of my skills. A big thank you to Helen Falla, our formidable CEO, who's trust in those skills helped deliver such a collaborative project. We onboarded more than 3000 units in a week, from more than 50 brands and over 25 suppliers (many of which are local makers) with the help of a small but mighty team who work tirelessly for the people we serve. This Gift Shop is beautiful, yes. But what I love most about having been a part of this process is that it is all founded in purpose; every single sale contributes to the positive impact we can have on patients, their families, carers and Canberra Health Services teams. This is by no means a call out for more POS and Retail work... I'm a very happy Digital Marketing Specialist back at my desk, creating and optimising content, analysing digital performance and growing the CHF presence in Canberra and beyond ✨

Have you heard of the Sexual Health, Lifestyle Relationship Program (SHLiRP)? 🌐 SHLiRP is a collaboration between Sexual Health & Family Planning ACT & The Canberra Sexual Health Centre. The program brings sexual health screening and sexual health/relationship education to secondary colleges in the ACT. "Our program attends all ACT Government Colleges and provides students with the opportunity to learn about safe sex, consent, respectful relationships and engaging with health services. We've found that students are more willing to engage if a small incentive is involved, which also adds to a fun environment for the students to experience while discussing topics like sexual health and relationships." says Angela Knight of the Canberra Sexual Health Centre. Thanks to your generous donations, teams like these can apply for funding through CHF that creates this positive outcome: encouraging teens to get involved in conversation about their health during their formative years. That's no small feat! ❤️

We are so proud to have launched the brand new Canberra Hospital Foundation Gift Shop, now officially open in the main foyer of Canberra Hospital 🛍️ More than just a Gift Shop, this is a social venture that you can be a part of. When you make a purchase, the proceeds will go back to supporting patients, families, and health care teams right here in Canberra. Now stocking local suppliers and makers, unique and useful items that patients, visitors and staff will enjoy and even more of the most popular item in store: bags (and bags and bags) of Red Frogs! We would like to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to Complete Constructions Aust, PELLE Architects, Canberra Health Services for all their hard work, dedication and collaboration on this incredible project. A special thanks to CHF Board Member Cathie O'Neill from ByCath who catered our Gift Shop celebration last week 🍰 Come visit us at this phenomenal space next time you are at Canberra Hospital, and say hi to the CHF Gift Shop's wonderful volunteers 🏥

Today, we say a heartfelt farewell to a wonderful member of our Canberra Hospital Foundation team, Amy Agius, who has contributed to our collaborative success for the past seven years! 👏 If you’ve ever fundraised with us, called our team, donated in-kind gifts, or supported one of our fundraising events and campaigns, chances are you’ve connected with Amy. From starting as our Administration Officer to growing into her current role as Operations and Funding Manager, Amy’s journey at CHF has been nothing short of incredible. Amy’s connection to CHF spans years before she joined our team. Her personal experience at Canberra Hospital shaped her career path in ways she never expected. When her eldest son Xavier was born, he spent just under 100 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). During that time, Amy saw firsthand the power of the generosity of our donors. From equipment like the Medela Symphony Hospital Grade Electric Breast Pump to the smallest yet most meaningful touches, like handcrafted comfort items donated by the community. These contributions, alongside the work of the dedicated healthcare teams, made an incredibly difficult time just a little easier for her family. Years later, when Amy came across a role at CHF, she knew she had to apply. She was driven by a passion for giving back and helping others experience the same support that meant so much to her. And that’s exactly what she’s done. Amy has worked alongside hundreds of Canberra Health Services staff and community members, helped grow CHF with innovation and a solutions-driven mindset, and, most importantly, led with immense heart. Amy, we cannot thank you enough for your dedication, kindness, and impact. You have made a difference, and we know that whatever comes next for you will be just as extraordinary. Please join us in celebrating Amy and wishing her all the best in her next exciting chapter! 💙✨

⚠️ This week's Joy Alert: Smiles and Showbags spotted at Centenary Hospital for Women & Children Playroom 🤩 A proud collaboration by Canberra Hospital Foundation with the Royal Canberra Show and MIX106.3, this annual initiative brings the excitement of the Royal Canberra Show right to kids in hospital. Every year, this event is such a joyful reminder that even when young people are in hospital, the magic can still find them thanks to our generous community. Young patients enjoyed special guest appearances by the ACT Brumbies, Canberra Raiders mascot Velda the Valkyrie and CHF's own Hearty all brought extra cheer and community spirit as they handed out official showbags ahead of the Canberra Show this weekend. A very heartfelt and grateful thank you to all involved, and to the incredible health care teams at the Centenary Hospital for Women & Children for their ongoing dedication to patients and their families 💝
