More than half of flood-related deaths happen when people drive through floodwaters. Even if the water looks calm, you can’t predict its depth, strength, or what’s happened to the road beneath. Any amount of swift-moving water can sweep away your vehicle—no matter what you drive. Don’t take the risk. If it’s flooded, forget it. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g5wMHi2J

Huge congratulations to Andrew Hardwick and the team at Re:act! Your dedication to road safety is truly inspiring.
It’s not every day you receive an award from the United Nations. From a tap on the shoulder to the big stage at the 4th Global Ministerial Conference for Road Safety in Marrakech, Morocco. I am honoured, proud, and very grateful to have accepted the “United Nations Regions Award - Asia Pacific”. I have always said if we save just one life on the roads then it’s all been worth it, and that’s what matters. To be recognised for it is very humbling and means a lot. Re:act isn’t just me though. It’s been a team all along the way, Roger Farley, Marty Luther, Christina Choi, Damien Tavella, Angus Duirs, and my right hand man who always gets it done, Vic Rechichi. And it’s not just a team. It’s an Advisory Group of individuals at the top of their game that take the time to support and advise us Rob McInerney, Omar Jacob, Liz Waller, Jerome Carslake, Andrew Baxter, Ioni Lewis, Michael Cali, and Jessica Truong. And great people we collaborate with like oOh!, KAS Creations Film & Media, and Brindle. And a huge thank you to all of our partner institutions, government agencies, and organisations from industry and the private sector, past and present. They are all recognised and appreciated for supporting and enabling Re:act along its journey of making an impact. We couldn't have done it without you! Re:act is a collaboration, many different people and parts, all working together to make a difference for the safe road behaviours of young people and developing our future communicators. Thank you all for believing in what we do and in our future generations. The third piece of my PhD project has been published! Our latest study explores drivers’ views on how information and road rules related to distracted driving could be improved. Through semi-structured interviews with 35 drivers in Queensland, Australia, we identified key areas where distracted driving information and legislation could be enhanced: • Expanding Content: Drivers highlighted underrepresented distractions, such as smartwatches, infotainment systems, passenger interactions, and roadside billboards. • Broader Legislation on Technological Devices: Participants emphasised the need for laws covering a wider range of devices beyond just hand-held mobile phones. • More Engaging Content: Visual presentations and targeted messaging, especially for high-risk groups like young drivers were suggested as more effective communication strategies. • Better Delivery Channels: Social media, short training sessions, and outdoor media were identified as the most effective ways to share distracted driving resources. Addressing distracted driving requires clearer, more comprehensive, and more engagingly communicated rules and resources. It’s a very hot day in the office today – even our resident possum family is seeking out a cool spot! 🐾 On days like this, it’s not just about staying hydrated and keeping cool – road safety is extra important too. Heat can take a toll on drivers and vehicles alike. Here are some quick tips: 🚗 Stay hydrated – dehydration can affect your focus and reaction times. 🚦 Plan regular breaks – fatigue sets in faster in the heat. 🔧 Check your vehicle – overheating engines and worn tyres are more common in hot weather. 🌬️ Keep your car ventilated – a cool cabin keeps everyone comfortable and safe. Let’s all look after ourselves and others on the road this summer. Stay cool, stay safe, and drive smart! 🌞

🚗 Excited for a road trip these school holidays? With more traffic expected on the roads, remember: safety first! Here are 5 simple tips to keep you and your family safe: 1️⃣ Slow down and drive to the conditions – safety starts with your speed. 2️⃣ Take a break every 2 hours – refreshed drivers are safer drivers. 3️⃣ Buckle up – every trip, every passenger, every time. 4️⃣ Don’t drink and drive – save the celebrations for when you arrive. 5️⃣ Keep your eyes on the road, not your phone – set your phone to ‘Do Not Disturb’ before you hit the road. 🚦 Bonus reminder: Treat all road users with respect, follow at a safe distance, and enjoy your trip! Wishing you happy, safe travels! 🌟 QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Department of Transport and Main Roads

🚛 Truck Blind Spots – Stay Seen, Stay Safe! 🚘 Heavy vehicles have large blind spots where drivers can’t see you. If you’re following too closely or driving in a blind spot, the truck driver might not know you’re there. 🛑 Stay back. 🛑 Stay visible. 🛑 Take care around trucks.
