Cbus Super Fund is proud to have supported Women in Super’s Threads of Inequality conference on 11 October. Cbus Super’s first fund secretary, Mavis Robertson, worked tirelessly with others to create something better for the retirements of building and construction workers. With a lack of opportunity for women in super to network, she created Women in Super in 1994. 30 years on, a lot has changed but we’re proud to continue her legacy, working with Women in Super to advocate for better retirement outcomes for women.   Read the relevant PDS and TMD to decide what’s right for you. Cbus Super toasts 30 years of Women in Super Cbus Super is very proud of the Fund’s strong links to Women in Super and that heritage was acknowledged with Deputy CEO and Chief Member Officer Marianne Walker leading the toast to mark the organisation’s 30th year at a gala function with special guest speaker The Hon. Julia Gillard AC. Cbus Super’s first CEO and sector pioneer Mavis Robertson established Women in Super in 1994 to create leadership and networking opportunities. Marianne's toast acknowledged the vision of Mavis, “I’m very proud to stand here and represent Cbus, a fund where Mavis Robertson’s legacy looms large. She used her position at the helm of the Fund, to support and encourage other women and not just in an ad hoc way, but structurally, through pushing for the establishment of Women in Super and being an active player for many years. “We are celebrating 30 years this evening, but 2024 also marks Cbus’ 40th milestone. We have both survived and thrived. So here’s to the success of the past, to the women who came before us, those who are with us now and to those who will come in the next 30 years.” The Hon. Julia Gillard’s keynote speech shared her global vision for thriving societies that achieve equality and economic safety for all women, and are inclusive for everyone. Cbus Super congratulates Women in Super’s team, directors, committees and members for the progress and milestones achieved over the past 30 years including providing empowering networking and education opportunities for members – and achieving policy change to improve retirement outcomes and equity for women through hard work, leadership and advocacy. #womeninsuper #superannuation #WIS #GenderEquity #advocacy #retirement Read the relevant PDS and TMD to decide what’s right for you. Any move to remove preservation will have a similar impact on local share and bond markets, which is why moving to a 401K system is reckless, Wayne Swan said. Dumping the preservation principle would likely lead to short term market impacts, and the long-term result would be lower and more volatile returns for every Australian’s savings for retirement.

Today is World Menopause Day It’s a day to recognise that, while menopause is a part of life for many people, menopausal symptoms can manifest differently for everybody. The “Driving the Change: Menopause and the Workplace”, a report compiled with the support of the Victorian Women's Trust, reveals the impact menopause and perimenopause can have on employees in the workplace. The research indicates: • 83% said that their work was negatively affected. • 73% said that their stress and anxiety were higher than usual. • 58% said that managing work during their menopausal transition was ‘challenging’. That’s why employees at Cbus are entitled to up to 12 days of paid menstrual or menopause leave per year. Over the last 12 months we saw 10% of employees access that leave. When I was 25 I went to my first retirement seminar. People have a giggle when I share this, and how young I was but i know learning about compound interest changed everything for me. It’s so important for us at Cbus Super Fund to support and advocate for better retirement outcomes for women.

I had the honour to lay a wreath on behalf of Cbus Super Fund at the memorial site today. 35 lives lost. 18 injured. Families changed for life. Let’s also not forget that many people die each year in industrial accidents so it’s a good reminder that if you see something that’s not safe, speak up.

At 11.50am today, we commemorate the 54th anniversary of the Westgate Bridge tragedy, Australia's deadliest industrial accident that claimed 35 lives and forever changed workplace safety. We pause to remember the 35 workers who lost their lives and their families, and honour those who dedicated themselves to making workplaces safer for future generations. This tragic event led to health and safety being at the forefront of the building and construction industry through new laws. Learn more about the Westgate Bridge Memorial: westgatebridge.org/
