A ground breaking two year study between Amplified Intelligence and QMS has uncovered the incredible attention capabilities of OOH advertising. With a sample size of more than 1.2 million people, and 11 different advertiser categories on 12 large and small format sites in Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, this study found that OOH ads are 5.9 times more likely than many digital channels to deliver above the global threshold for something to be committed to long-term memory. "Optimising media for reach alone no longer works" - a point I’ve been making for years based on a deep understanding of how media ad delivery and measurement systems work (and don't work). While we've faced criticism, notably from Byron Sharp, who has dismissed our findings due to the lack of peer review, the evidence is now stacking up. With an Associate Professor from Oxford University backing this with research on 1,000 ads, combined with our own validation regression on 41,000 ads (which is a small regression sample of ours), it's becoming undeniable: the traditional focus on reach is flawed.
