What a fantastic turnout last week for our deep tech ecosystem Celebrating Our Partners event- It was inspiring to see so many leaders, supporters, and innovators in one room. 🎉 Cicada's mission is to build Australia's deep tech economy, supporting the breakthroughs that will shape our future. Yet, none of what we do is possible without our funders, founders, collaborators, mentors, coaches, speakers and thought leaders. Deep tech is a long game, and it takes an entire ecosystem to turn bold ideas into real-world impact. Every connection, every insight, and every act of support strengthens this community. 2024 was a milestone year: Our community raised over $447 million in private capital and grants, creating 121+ new jobs and our 3 incubators are currently housing 84 startups! Our residents continue to achieve remarkable things, from Navbit winning the InnovationAus.com Health Tech category award to Syenta, securing $2M from the NSW Physical Sciences Fund, as well as Rux Energy, receiving a Clean Technology Research and Development Grant and their CEO Dr Jehan Kanga being recognised as one of Australia's top 100 Energy Players. We also witnessed Tech23 bringing together 400+ attendees to celebrate 23 visionary startups tackling global challenges, as well as Cicada Innovations hosting 74+ events, workshops, and programs —enough people to fill the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall twice! Thank you to Chris Turney (University of Technology Sydney), Ingrid Marsh and Sian Priest for speaking at this event and a big thank you to everyone who makes Cicada the home of deep tech in Australia. We are excited to announce that Tech23 alumni,  Stralis Aircraft (YC W23) has been awarded a $250,000 Industry Growth Program grant. This funding will help accelerate the build and test of their proprietary high temperature fuel cells, which are 6 times lighter than competing low temperature fuel cell systems. Stralis’ lightweight fuel cells are the key that will unlock emission-free hydrogen electric aircraft that can carry useful payloads long ranges.
