We’re thrilled to have Senior Associate Gaston Nogues presenting Morris Moor Building 4 at the Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Chapter Awards tomorrow. Morris Moor’s Building 4 is a testament to the power of adaptive reuse, transforming a 1950s redbrick factory into a thriving, all-electric commercial hub while preserving its industrial character. Spanning 16,000 sqm across three levels, the design introduces expansive windows, skylights, and communal courtyards, enhancing daylight, thermal performance, and connectivity. Featuring 15 tenancies, co-working spaces, and event facilities, the project was fully leased within a year, demonstrating the long-term value of the vibrant, community-focused, sustainable redevelopment. #VictorianArchitectureAwards Up Property, Kapitol Group, Made For, Tract Consultants, ADP Consulting, Connect Plus Property Solutions Photography by Dianna Snape

Certified B Corporations believe there’s a better path to a better world—one of action and purpose, inspiration and community. We’re rapt to be Australia’s highest ranked architectural BCorp. The best part? Reaccrediting every 3 years. Yes, gathering the data around 200+ indicators over 5 categories – governance, workers, community, environment and customers – is a LOT. Thank you Anna James! But the evidence and clarity that gives us about what’s working and what to focus on next is gold. In #BCorpMonth we come together to celebrate the wins and hear from some of our emerging leaders in this space about the next steps in our practice operations. This week we all came together to hear Sindy Bowlen and Isabella Peppard Clark share how we can better embed sustainability in our projects, by presenting an education case study, along with Maia Heysen and Olivia Goodliffe who inspired us by their plans to run a Kenyan Marathon to support the One Heart Charity in East Africa. Looking ahead, our Sustainability Action Plan is also about to be launched at the beginning of next month. We’re proud to be a Certified B Corporation™: a company that demonstrates positive social and environmental impact. We’re part of a generation of people using business to make a better tomorrow a reality today. #BCorpMonth.

Thanks RMIT for this case study about CHC's partnership with #YulendjWeelamLab. Our workshops and on-Country experiences with the Lab's designers and Indigenous knowledge holders have helped us recognise how far we've come over the past nearly decade, celebrate our achievements on projects and in practice, and prioritise our Designing with Country goals for the years ahead. https://lnkd.in/gBJDNbUY

A great collaboration with all involved - we're proud to see this project come to life.
We are excited to celebrate the official opening of Kuyim Primary School, one of the new schools opened by the Victorian Government this term. In collaboration with ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects, we are proud to see our design come to life, creating an inclusive and inspiring learning environment for the next generation. Guided by the Designing with Country philosophy, we worked with Bunurong Land Council to make sure to the school’s design seamlessly integrates place-based elements, drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes of historic Bunurong pathways. The material and colour palette reflect the surrounding native bushland, fostering a deep connection to Country while respecting and honouring the cultural heritage of the Bunurong people. To support inclusive education, the school’s Learning Neighbourhoods have been designed to cater to students of all abilities. A variety of learning spaces—including retreat nooks, sensory walls and small group rooms—ensure a supportive and adaptable environment that meets diverse learning and sensory needs. It was a privilege to mark this milestone alongside the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, The Hon. Ben Carroll, our client Victorian School Building Authority, and members of the project team. A sincere thank you to our project partners —VSBA, Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, Hutchinson Builders, JLL, Formium & Ochre Landscape, Caleb Engineers, Meinhardt Group, Greenshoots, Architecture & Access , Philip Chun Building Compliance, WMGA, Square 1, GIW, UT Consulting, MBMPL Pty Ltd and Salt —whose collaboration brought this vision to life.

🎧Biophilic co-design for mental health: Episode 2 of Up Property’s new podcast. We’re excited to share this wide-ranging interview about co-designing for mental health at Barwon Health’s Mental Health Hub in Geelong. CHC Senior Interior Designer Stephanie Clarke and developer Marcus Jankie of Up Property delve deep into the nuances, surprises and impact of co-designing biophilic spaces with clinicians and consumers with lived experience. How have adaptive reuse, trauma-informed design and co-design with clinicians and consumers with lived experience helped transform a derelict arcade in central Geelong into an exemplar of biophilic design for mental health? Steph & Marcus unpack the way colours, shapes and patterns regularly used in biophilic interiors designed for nature connection and wellbeing can inadvertently trigger negative associations. “We learned what a nuanced approach to colour, patterning and degrees of abstraction looked like for this group,” Steph says. “Connecting the interior environment to the natural environment was really important to them, but we had to avoid anything too abstract or hyper-realistic and create beautiful, semi-abstract touch points throughout the spaces to add to the overall design.” Listen here: https://lnkd.in/g6PzXwZh #adaptivereuse #traumainformeddesign #codesign #biophilicdesign #livedexperience #mentalhealth #mentalhealthdesign #healthcaredesign #designformentalhealth #colourtheory #designforhealth #psychologyofcolor

It’s been another big year of growth and transformation at CHC. We’re delighted to share the promotion of three emerging leaders in our Melbourne and Sydney studios. Karrie Williams steps into the role of Associate in our Health team in Melbourne. Karrie has had an incredible design journey so far, progressing from small refurbishments to $150m new builds in just seven years. She’s highly regarded for responsive design, cross-sector collaboration, deft problem solving, technical skills and team mentoring. She also loves learning, which is fortunate because in healthcare no two projects are ever the same, and there are always more nuances to understand about our clients, their highly specific needs, and the forces shaping the rapidly changing healthcare environment. Nicholas Simmonds in our Melbourne Health team has also been promoted to the role of Associate. Nick’s talent for complex problem solving is a major asset in the highly technical field of health design. From new specialist health facilities to major hospital redevelopments, he guides projects through all phases with an eagle eye for quality, sequencing and standards. Nick has a natural ability to make the complex simple, a thirst for knowledge and a resourcefulness that helps him take projects to the next level. Jake Le Lievre takes on a Senior Architect role in our Sydney team. His broad knowledge and construction expertise have been central to the success of our growing Sydney team. Jake’s architectural and masterplanning experience incorporates mixed use and retail, commercial, health, hospitality, community, education, residential, and sport. Cross-disciplinary coordination, inclusivity and designing with Country are his cornerstones. “With my life being affected by physical disability, I try to champion universal design in my work,” he says. At University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Jake teaches humanitarian design in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders. Over the past two years he’s led two semesters of student projects with Torres Strait Islanders on Saibai Island, and guided students working with the Yirrganydji people in Far North Queensland via the Dawul Wuru Aboriginal Corporation. Please join us in congratulating our new senior leadership team members!
