Sometimes a supporter needs to cancel their sponsorship. It’s tough news for the child and their family to hear, but the good news is they don’t miss out on anything while they wait! 💙 Thanks to the Unsponsored Children Fund, every child who is enrolled in a Compassion program receives immediate holistic support in the form of food, education, medical care and emotional and spiritual support from the safe arms of their local church community. Darine, an 8-year-old from the Dominican Republic lost his sponsor unexpectedly in 2023, but the centre staff were careful to ensure he still had everything he needed. Having ten siblings, sometimes food is a scarcity at home, but Darine knows a nutritious meal is always waiting for him at the centre. “It makes me happy to play with my friends and eat at the centre and learn from my teacher who treats me well,” Darine says, with a big smile. Currently, there are more than 282,500 children like Darine waiting for a sponsor, but thanks to the Unsponsored Children Fund, they aren’t waiting alone. Our local church partners are serving, loving and protecting them while they wait. When a crisis hits, the local church rises up. 💙🌎 In the last week, 47 of our local Filipino church partners and more than 2,800 children registered with Compassion have been affected by Severe Tropical Storm Trami (known locally as Kristine). 97 people have lost their lives, 30 remain missing and another 69 are injured. Farms and businesses have been flooded, and nearly 1 million people have been displaced, making food and clean water difficult to access. On the ground in the Philippines, our local church partners are taking action distributing food, clean water, hygiene kits, temporary shelters and school supplies to children and families. They are also providing emotional support, counselling and will help to fund the repairs of homes as needed. This support is only possible because of the Disaster Relief fund. When a crisis like Severe Tropical Cyclone Trami strikes, the Disaster Relief fund is drawn on to protect children and families and ensure they receive what they need through both short-term aid and long-term support. Please join us in praying for the precious children and families in this community, and donate to the Disaster Relief fund now: https://lnkd.in/gRwnRMFv

Have you ever had to wait a long time for something? 🕰️ There are many children who get enrolled in Compassion’s programs every single day, but sometimes it can take a while for a child to be teamed up with a sponsor. Currently, more than 282,500 children are waiting for a sponsor. Thankfully, because of the Unsponsored Children Fund, these children have access to holistic support right away. They receive food, medical care, educational support and emotional and spiritual care in the safe and nurturing environment of their local church. 💙 This month, we are praying specifically for these children who are still waiting for a sponsor. Would you join us in praying for hope to flood their hearts as they wait?

So, why schools? 🤔 More than any other generation, #GenZ are extensively connected on a local and global scale. Raised in a time of peak technological innovation, many Gen Zs are digitally native, globally minded and politically active. They have the resources, confidence and creativity to make a real difference in the world—and they know it too! 💪 Compassion Australia created our Poverty Stops With Me program because we want to harness this energy to put an end to global poverty for good. Using engaging resources like videos, hands-on activities, devotions and fundraising challenges, students across junior, middle and senior school can use their heads, hearts and hands to move with compassion and spark real change. 💡📚 If you know any teachers, chaplains, principals or support staff who have a heart for justice and are interested in implementing this resource, direct them to povertystopswithme.com.au. #GenZ #YouthEmpowerment #GlobalImpact #PovertyStopsWithMe

Hi, I’m Cooper, part of the team working to engage young people through Poverty Stops With Me. This is a program designed to help students understand poverty from a biblical perspective and discover how they can make a difference. In our first year, we saw 13 schools sign up, and the feedback from teachers has been overwhelmingly positive. They've shown a real eagerness to co-create future versions of the program with us, helping shape what’s next. One key learning is how much schools value hearing from outside voices. Bringing in someone new to engage with students is a powerful way to inspire them. At the same time, we’ve recognised the need to make the program even easier for teachers to deliver themselves. At the recent Christian Schools Australia National Leadership Conference, we were thrilled when 40% of the schools in attendance signed up for 2025, with 22 schools committing on the spot! It was a huge win, and we’re already excited for year two with 35 schools ready to join. Looking ahead, I see a future where every student, not only in Christian schools, but schools around the country understands the complexities of poverty. Not only that but also reconciles this issue within their own hearts, discovering how they can engage meaningfully in the world around them. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gQ_CnudR

Teenagers are the future! 💙 These young people from Barker College in NSW have gone above and beyond to fight poverty together. Run by Year 10 student Angelina, the school now sponsors six children with Compassion Australia. Each year level from 7-12 sponsors a different child, and that year level gets to write letters, organise fundraisers and celebrate the achievements of the child they sponsor. “Together, I know that the students at Barker College will make a difference, one act of compassion at a time,” says Angelina. “Each kind gesture, each act of support, is like a stitch in the tapestry of compassion that we are collectively weaving." What an incredible group of teenagers! 👏

What happens when you ask for a teenager’s opinion? 💭 They give it to you! Over the last few months, we’ve been working on products that will engage #GenZ with Compassion’s mission. As we began this project, we discussed what we thought teenagers would respond to, the colours they’d like, the cuts of jumpers they would wear and the trends we should jump on. The big question was: “What do teenagers want?” Then someone said, “Why don’t we ask them?” So, that’s exactly what we did. We went to youth conferences across the country and asked teenagers to co-create with Compassion. They didn’t hold back with their thoughts, and we loved every minute of it! Now, we’re back to the drawing board. We’ve taken their feedback and we’re running with it because we know that teenagers are the next generation of Compassion neighbours. Stay tuned for what’s coming ... Apparently, it’s “slay”. #GenerationZ #Engagement #HighSchool #NonProfit #Innovation

Today is #InternationDayForTheEradicationOfPoverty 👏 Poverty is much more than a lack of food. Today alone, 250 million children won’t go to school. 2.2 billion people won’t have access to safe drinking water. 1.5 billion people won’t have basic sanitary facilities to use. 333 million children are facing this reality every day. Poverty is a lack of choice. It’s an absence of safety. It’s a longing for hope. That’s why we are passionate about the work of local churches around the world. These churches are the heartbeat of their communities and provide a safe space for children and giving them the opportunity to reach their God-given potential. Take a moment to immerse yourself in the world of the local church: https://lnkd.in/g7HrdiKE Eradicating poverty isn’t a solo mission. It takes a global neighbourhood. 💙 #CompassionAustralia #InternationalDayForTheEradicationOfPoverty #EradicationOfPovertyDay #PovertyEradication #CleanWater #EducationForAll
