Very proud to announce that Congress CEO Donna Ah Chee was named winner of the National Rural & Remote Health Awards Execellence in Rural/Remote Health Administration award last night in Canberra. Congress was also recognised with the award for Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthcare. In addition to this, Congress Alukura Midwifery Group Practice was a finalist in the Rural/Remote Health Innovator of the Year category, and the Podiatry and Diabetes Education Outreach team were named finalists in the Dedication to Health in a Remote Location category; both wonderful honours in themselves. It is great to share this news, and to have the hard work of Congress' current and past leaders and workers recognised. It is a testament to the strength of Aboriginal community control.

Australia’s ‘most satisfied’ GPs are working in health services designed and governed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, according to The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)'s Health of the Nation 2024 report. The 2024 report revealed a marked improvement in job satisfaction, with the ‘most satisfied’ GPs working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health services, including Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs).  These GPs have the highest job satisfaction (88% compared to 73% overall) and more would recommend general practice as a career (68% compared to 44%). They also have the best work-life balance and lowest rate of burnout. Pat Turner AM, CEO of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation said: “At NACCHO, we are immensely proud of the positive impact our ACCHOs have on both the communities they serve and the healthcare professionals who work within them.   “The consistently high levels of job satisfaction among GPs working in ACCHOs reflect the strong, culturally grounded care models that are vital to the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This sense of purpose and connection drives the exceptional care delivered by these GPs, underscoring the importance of building and supporting a dedicated workforce for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, which remains central to our advocacy efforts.” 

Congress CEO receives NT Australian of the Year Awards nomination! A huge congratulations to Congress Child & Youth Assessment and Therapeutic Service (CYATS) Team who were recently announced Northern Territory PHN's Fox Education and Consulting Primary Healthcare Team of the Year! The service is one of a number of innovative child health and development programs within Congress and is widely trusted and easily accessed by Aboriginal families and children of Alice Springs and surrounding communities. CYATS (pronouced “see-yats”) has assisted Aboriginal families not only to receive early detection of and intervention for their child’s neurodevelopmental condition, but also to enter a network of support services across health, education, social and family supports.
