Did you know there’s such a thing as fake mirin? 😲 Hey, it’s Paddy again! 😸 In Japan, they call it "mirin-style seasoning" (at least they’re upfront about it!), but here in Australia, I’ve seen it being sold as the real thing—or even used in Japanese cooking classes! 🙀 So, what’s wrong with fake mirin? Well, it’s basically just sugar, chemicals, and water. Gross! 😾 Honestly, if you’re going to use that, you might as well just mix sugar and water yourself. Of course, Yoshiko always sticks to the real, authentic stuff—she loves the one from @spiralfoods! 🐾🍶

🌟 Akita Cuisine – A Taste of Tohoku 🌟 Last year, I visited Akita for the first time and absolutely fell in love! It’s an amazing place with incredible food💫 During my trip, I enjoyed plenty of rice. I grabbed vegan onigiri (rice balls) at Akita Station for my train ride🍙—so easy to find! I also tried Kiritanpo, a traditional dish made of steamed rice wrapped on a stick and roasted over charcoal🔥—a must-try! And the highlight—Inaniwa Udon! Thin, handmade udon using a special "tenai" technique. I watched it being made at Tazawa Lake (I even met an Akita dog!). It’s one of Japan's top udon varieties, and my absolute favourite! 🙌✨ Lastly, Iburigakko—a smoked pickled daikon—was my kind of treat! 😋 I found a traditional, MSG-free version and it was perfect. With its beautiful nature, hot springs, and delicious food, I highly recommend visiting Akita next time you're in Japan! 🌸

Hi there, Paddy here! 🐱 Do you munch on seaweeds? If not, I highly recommend adding them to your diet! Why? Seaweeds are bursting with minerals and are super alkalizing! Yoshiko adores seaweeds and nibbles on various types daily, but Nori is her absolute fave! Here in Australia, more and more people are snacking on nori, and Nori roll shops are popping up everywhere! But watch out, not all Nori is good. Even if the package has Japanese writing, most are not a product of Japan. Why's that a problem? Yoshiko accidentally bought non-Japanese Nori once, and it tasted awful, like chemicals! She even found green powder on it. Yuck! She wonders what it was... ink powder, maybe? Who knows! 🙀 Yoshiko tried to feed me good quality nori from @spiralfoods, but I just don’t like it! 🐟

🌟 Have you tried Onigirazu yet? This trendy rice sandwich is taking Japan by storm, offering a mess-free alternative to traditional onigiri! 🍙✨ The name comes from “onigiri,” meaning rice ball, and “razu,” which means “without”—so it’s basically a rice ball without all the pressing! Want the recipe?
