"Australia’s Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) play an important role in developing innovative solutions for industry. They enable and promote domestic and international collaboration between industry, researchers, and government, and their international networks and industry-focused approach accelerate progress on some of society's most complex challenges." ~CRA Report: Mapping and quantification of CRCs’ work on decarbonisation We have long known the value CRCs deliver and this is evident in a report by ACIL Allen that quantified the contribution of 13 CRCs to Australia's decarbonisation goals. These CRCs are delivering new products and services, developing reports and other publications, contributing to education and capacity building, enhancing Australia’s export opportunities, informing decision-making, and engaging with end users. In case you missed it... A report we launched this week showcases the important role that Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) are playing in helping Australia reach Net Zero by 2050. Analysing the contribution of a group of 13 CRCs, ACIL Allen found that Australia's CRC Program is making a significant contribution through research and innovation to Australia's decarbonisation targets. The 13 CRCs have collectively spent/plan to spend a total of $2.28 billion toward their priorities. More than 49% of this funding, or $1.12 billion, is allocated to decarbonisation-related activities. The report demonstrates the importance of bringing together government, industry and research to solve one of the most pressing problems facing the Australian economy today. It calls for greater collaboration, coordination and investment to maximise the power of the CRC model. We're excited to have launched our new insightful report today: Mapping and quantification of CRCs’ work on decarbonisation. The independently-commissioned analysis by ACIL Allen showcases how Cooperative Research Centres are directly contributing to Australia's ambitious decarbonisation goals. The report forecasts that over 2017-2032, the contribution of a group of 13 CRCs is set to see: - an increase of $1.7 billion to Australia’s real economy as a result of industry-led decarbonisation research and innovation. - an increase of $4.8 billion in Australia’s economic output (GDP). - $5.80 generated in additional economic output (GDP) for every dollar invested. - 3,705 job years to 2032 to be delivered. This landmark report shows while we still have significant progress to make, CRCs are already delivering tangible outcomes on our path to Net Zero. We welcome the launch today of Australia’s National Science Statement, and its revitalised National Science and Research Priorities, by Industry and Science Minister, Hon Ed Husic MP. We're pleased to see that collaboration between research and industry, as well as investment in R&D, are acknowledged as crucial to advance Australia’s economic complexity and position our nation as leader in high-value industries. And we're delighted to participate in the process of developing the priorities. CRA has members working on, and committed with, all five priorities. For example, the world-leading Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Program is at the forefront of efforts to achieve our ambitious climate change targets, with over $1 billion of industry, research and government investment on industry-led R&D aimed at getting Australia to Net Zero. Congratulations to Minister Ed Husic MP and Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley on their leadership in bringing the Statement and Priorities to life through broad consultation with the innovation community.
