NOW OPEN is She Oaks-based artist Chloe Caday's latest solo exhibition 'Balikbayan / Returning Home', showing in our Woolloomooloo gallery from 19 March - 5 April. Join us TONIGHT, Wednesday 19 March, for the opening celebration from 5:30-8pm. ⚫️ View Caday's catalogue + available work via the link in bio. Drawing on from Caday’s personal experiences of migration and motherhood, the exhibition is centred around the Tagalog term, Balikbayan, a common term that signifies connection, culture and identity in Filipino communities all over the globe. In this exhibition, Caday explores the creation of her identity and perceptions when the two cultures unite and how her displacement of Filipino heritage has affected her identity, particularly as a mother raising her children in the Victorian bushland. Caday’s experience of motherhood has opened conversations and insights into the offerings and teachings passed down from her lineage, connecting her experiences of migration to her more recent experiences of motherhood. NOW OPEN is Sydney-based painter Courtney McClelland's debut exhibition 'Holding Hands As The Sun Falls,' showing in our Woolloomooloo gallery from 19 March - 5 April. Join us TONIGHT, Wednesday 19 March, for the opening celebration from 5:30-8pm. ⚫️ View McClelland's catalogue + available work via the link in bio. Says McClelland of this body of work, “I paint indulgently, dancing the brush all over the canvas as the bodies reveal themselves. I feel like I’m chasing something, grappling between the viscosity of the paint, the figures and the feeling I want them to convey. In turn, the bodies I paint are often found to be in struggles with the landscape around them – suspended, caught up in eddies, blurring into the sky and mulching into the ground. I use these physical sensations to make sense of visceral ones. Some of these works I view as one body unravelling, while others are gentle exchanges between gatherings. Sometimes, they collapse into each other; other times, they’re falling headfirst, arms flailing “Inevitably, there is a lot of myself in these works. I am constantly drawing from things I have heard, seen and felt. The works are my way of navigating my own experiences and all the complicated sensations that arise from existing in a body- the restlessness under my skin. Amidst this, they are about how we relate to each other in relationships and as collectives and are an ode to the romance of it all.” Featured work: 'Trouble In the Dirt', 2024, oil and acrylic on canvas, 145cm H x 125cm W 'All Caught Up', 2024, oil and acrylic on canvas, 115cm H x 89cm W 'Congregation', 2024, oil and acrylic on canvas, 135cm H x 135cm W 'Soft-Edged Couple', 2024, oil and acrylic on canvas, 64cm H x 54cm W Photo courtesy of the artist. @courtneymcclelland_ #contemporaryart #sydneygallery #sydneyexhibition #emergingartist #abstractpainting #semiabstract #figurativepainting #baroquepainting

Odette Ireland's 'Ornamental Mobile No.10' looks simply perfect placed in this exquisite space by @arentpykestudio and masterfully styled by @jackmilenkovic. #Repost - W H A R F H O U S E : John Keats, the English Romantic poet once wrote, “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never Pass into nothingness...” His poetry finds ebullient expression in the Birchgrove home of a family charmed by its heritage beauty. That the owners weren’t even in the market builds on Keats’s point: time does nothing to diminish the value of homes with history; they remain as desirable as ever. Opening this week is Courtney McClelland's debut exhibition 'Holding Hands As The Sun Falls,' showing in our Woolloomooloo gallery from 19 March - 5 April. JOIN US for the opening celebration on Wednesday 19 March from 5:30-8pm. ⚫️ View McClelland's catalogue + available work via the link in bio. Says McClelland of her work, "I have always been drawn to painting the body – it’s something that is familiar in its form but has infinite translations and stories transcribed within it. The body is an emblem for the sensations, histories, desires, intimacies and vulnerabilities that exist within it. Each of these works has its own story. In a way, each painting feels like an excavation - I am digging out parts of the body, rendering its curves and reassembling them to feel out an image." Cover artwork: In the Belly', 2024.
