❤️🖤💛 National Close the Gap Day 💙🤍💚 Today is an important day to highlight the ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes and life expectancies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people right across Australia. One of the many ways we’re working to improve outcomes at Darling Downs Health is the Deadly Start school-based traineeship program, which supports First Nations students with paid, on the job training to develop skills in their final years of high school. Lilly, one of our Deadly Start trainees, has been working at the Kingaroy Hospital maternity and birthing suite. Lilly said Close the Gap Day was about “striving for equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in health, education, and opportunities”. “As a proud Kooma descendant, National Close the Gap Day reminds me of the need for action, Indigenous-led solutions, and valuing our culture,” Lilly said. “It’s a call for all Australians to stand together for a fairer future.” Darling Downs Health is celebrating National Close the Gap Day at Kingaroy Hospital today.
