The UK’s decision to ban junk food ads online and on TV from 2025 is a bold (and very welcome) move, targeting thirteen categories of junk foods from being advertised before 9 pm. And it’s not just the usual suspects like sugary drinks, crisps, cereals, and cakes – it’s also foods many have long believed are ‘healthy’, like granola, porridge oats, rice crackers, and popcorn. 👏 With over a third of kids in England overweight by the time they leave primary school (one in four in Australia), it’s clear something needs to change – and fast. It’s time for Australia to step up and put our health first. How much longer will we let junk food ads flood our screens and harm our kids’ health? Isn’t it time we made a change too? https://lnkd.in/eZV7NBd3 #DefeatDiabetes #LowCarbLiving #HealthyChoices #JunkFoodBan #HealthTech #SugarFree #HealthyLiving #Prevention #Type2Diabetes #PreDiabetes

Recent headlines in one of Australia's most-read newspapers may have you questioning the safety of low-carb diets for managing type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, these claims stem from a flawed study with a skewed definition of "low carb." Renowned nutrition expert Nina Teicholz, PhD has debunked the recent Australian study from Monash University, falsely linking low carb diets to increased diabetes risk (read here) 👉https://lnkd.in/e_mvr2HW The evidence is clear: Low carb diets, specifically those under 130 grams of carbohydrates per day, can be a valuable tool for managing type 2 diabetes. This conclusion is supported by numerous well-studied clinical trials. #type2diabetes #therapeuticcarbohydratereduction #lowcarbdiet #type2treatment #hcp #nutritionscience #healthtech #healthnews #digitalhealth #lchf

Recent headlines have unfairly linked low carb diets to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. However, these claims are based on a flawed study that misrepresented a "low carb" diet. Our experts, Dr Peter Brukner and Dr Paul Mason, have thoroughly analysed the study's shortcomings and highlighted the importance of critically evaluating nutritional claims to avoid getting caught up in misinformation. Despite these misleading reports, numerous studies have consistently shown that low carb diets can effectively improve blood glucose control in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Don't be fooled by sensational headlines. The evidence is clear: low carb diets can be a valuable tool for managing type 2 diabetes. 🔗 Watch Dr Mason's review: https://lnkd.in/gamqRnND 🔗 Read Dr Brukner's analysis of the flawed study: https://lnkd.in/g3ad4g_J 🔗 Explore the body of reliable evidence supporting the low carb approach: https://lnkd.in/gQ4GxGrT James Muecke AM #type2free #type2diabetes #publichealth #therapeuticcarbohydratereduction #lowcarb #lowcarbdiet #ketodiet #ketogenicdiet

There have been several recent news headlines of a new study that suggests low carb can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. Peter Brukner and the Defeat Diabetes team want to state that the overwhelming evidence supports low carb for improving blood glucose levels and achieving type 2 diabetes remission. The new research has many flaws, which Dr Brukner has addressed in the article below.

We’re excited to learn about the $250,000 grant from The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Foundation and nib Group Foundation, which will support the adaptation and implementation of the Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT) protocol in Australia—which has already been implemented in UK practices. This trial aims to achieve diabetes remission through an integrated approach that combines the expertise of GPs with the specialised knowledge of exercise physiologists. Our founder, Dr Peter Brukner, a renowned sports and medicine physician, has long championed innovative approaches to diabetes care. This trial reflects his commitment to effective, evidence-based solutions and could significantly enhance diabetes management in Australia. At Defeat Diabetes, we aim to help Australians with type 2 diabetes achieve remission through a sustainable low-carb approach. Although DiRECT uses a very low-calorie diet, we share the same ultimate goal: remission. We support this innovative trial and its potential to transform diabetes care in Australia, and we're pleased to see it align with broader goals of diabetes management, including those supported by our partners like Diabetes Australia. 🩺 #DiabetesCare #HealthInnovation #SharedCare #Type2Diabetes #HealthFunding #DiabetesRemission #HealthTech, #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #HealthInvestment #HealthPartnerships #MedTech #FutureOfHealthcare #GP #AusDoc #exercisephysiologist #alliedhealth
