The organisation is one of Australia’s nine National Sporting Organisations for people with disability, all of whom share a common purpose to improve the lives of Australians living with disability using sport as the medium. A huge thank you to Paralympics Australia Official Partner, Harvey Norman for helping make our Bupa Try Para-sport events an absolute hit. 💛
A huge shout-out to our Official Partner, Harvey Norman, for supporting this year’s Para-Try Days in NSW, QLD, and VIC! Thanks to Harvey Norman, our participants had a dedicated Chill Out Zone to relax and recharge, plus everyone received $50 vouchers to take a piece of the event home. And the prizes? With items like a coffee machine, Hisense bar fridge, Gasmate BBQ, and Tempur pillows up for grabs, the excitement was through the roof! Thank you, Harvey Norman, for helping us create unforgettable experiences and making these days even more special.

A recent article by Sport Integrity Australia highlighted our commitment to driving and maintaining safeguarding practices in sport. Thanks to Madeline Wood for leading DSA's integrity efforts, and as Ayden Shaw our CEO says, integrity is everyone's responsibility.
Integrity is everyone’s responsibility, and every organisation must uphold it. At Disability Sports Australia, our small but dedicated team has been steadfast in our commitment to enhancing our safeguarding practices over the past few years. While often a thankless task, it is absolutely vital and we want to lead the way in this area. I was thrilled to see our hard work recognised in a recent issue of Sport Integrity Matters, by Sport Integrity Australia which spotlighted Madeline Wood, who leads our integrity efforts. One key aspect of our integrity work has been leveraging technology to ensure that anyone who wants to volunteer with us can do so safely but in a user-friendly manner. Our partnership with Rosterfy has been transformative, enabling us to streamline our volunteering process, support event delivery, and make volunteering both attractive and enjoyable. A huge thank you to Shannan Gove, Bennett Merriman, Dee Marsden and the entire Rosterfy team for their invaluable support. Seeing Madeline recognised in the article was particularly satisfying. Madi consistently goes above and beyond for our organisation and has grown tremendously in recent years. She is a future leader in our sector, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her guiding our integrity initiatives. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Sport Integrity Australia. Their Safeguarding in Sport Continuous Improvement Program has been a game-changer, enabling us to make remarkable progress across our organisation, even with at times limited resources. We are also thankful to the Australian Sporting Alliance for People with a Disability (ASAPD) and Ross Ashcroft for their unwavering support. Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring our resources are used efficiently, with minimal duplication across organisations. Together, we are building a safer, more inclusive environment for all.

We’ve got a Winner in our Midst! We are so proud of Rae Anderson, our Abilities Unleashed Program Support Officer, who was recently named as a recipient of the Sir Roden Cutler Award! Sir Roden Cutler Awards are presented to high-achieving athletes with a disability, who compete at an international standard and are widely regarded as an ambassador for their sport. Rae is a member of the ParaMatildas and a dual summer and winter Paralympian. Rae said, ‘Being an award recipient, then to be awarded the overall Sir Roden Cutler Plate was an honour. I do what I do because I love it and hope to help make para sports more accessible for the next generation. To be honoured in this way with a very generous grant to our organisation, DSA, is very exciting to think about what we can continue to achieve together in the future.’ Three award finalists each receive a grant of $7500 awarded to their choice of sporting or recreational facility for people with disability. While one recipient is awarded the overall Sir Roden Cutler Plate. Congratulations Rae on this outstanding achievement and for the work you do promoting sporting opportunities for people with disability.
