In our team, safety is our primary priority. That includes physical and psychological safety. So, we are absolutely delighted to share that our very own Health and Wellbeing Manager Cathy Connors was awarded the 2024 Psychosocial Risk Management Professional of the Year last night! The Women in Safety Awards were held in Fortitude Valley, and what an apt place to be to receive such an honour. Cathy's strength of mind to keep us all fit and healthy for the future is recognised by not only us, but by others, so we thank you Cathy and well done. As we innovate and transition to renewables, we’re also transforming our processes and systems. Matt Lassau shared a sneak peek with us into his inspiring career journey from fieldwork to his current role as Frontline Mobility Manager. And because we're a team of passionate people, we thought we'd give you an insider view. Matt's hands-on experience is invaluable in challenging and refining our procedures; and it’s all about moving forward. Thanks for sharing Matt. Connecting appliances, home batteries and electric vehicles together to interact in a smart home energy management system might sound like it is light years’ away; however, it is closer than most realise. Working with the CSIRO team, and curious minds like Dr Sam Behrens and Kate Cavanagh, our equally curious Innovation team is trialling just that at our Innovation Hub in Port Macquarie. The trial is examining how vehicle to grid (V2G) technology can enable energy exchange between the EV battery, grid technology, storage and appliances to support customers in their energy use and also assist the network during times of peak demand. Tomorrow is the United Nations’ International Day of Rural Women is “Rural Women Sustaining Nature for Our Collective Future: Building Climate Resilience, Conserving Biodiversity, and Caring for Land Towards Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls.” Over 88,000 women are employed in Australia’s agriculture sector, making up nearly one-third of the agricultural workforce. We thank all the women leading the way across our regional, rural, and remote footprint. Thank you for the social, economic, and environmental contribution you make each and every day. If you're a regional, rural or remote female who would like to participate in decision-making within your community; consider if our Customer Advocacy Group is a forum you'd like to contribute to: https://bit.ly/3Zl4B52 Find out more about the International Day of Rural Women: https://bit.ly/4eFjy6R #WomenInAgriculture #UnitedNations #ClimateChange #CommunitySpirit #communities

Last week, a new peak renewable generation record of 73.87% was reported in the National Electricity Market (NEM). Of that, 43.7% was generated from rooftop solar. Reflecting these results, over the past 7 years our customers in regional, rural, and remote NSW have nearly doubled their uptake of rooftop solar. Moving from 16.92% in 2017-18 to 32.64% in 2023-24. As more customers take the opportunity to generate green energy, they increase the potential to export excess solar power to the NEM when the sun is shining. Building the network of the future will empower communities to actively participate in the energy transition, fostering economic growth. Our fully integrated streetlight electric vehicle (EV) charger, trialled in Port Macquarie earlier this year, has shown how innovative thinking can support the charging roll out across regional, rural and remote communities. Last night, we were named one of the Most Innovative Companies for 2024 (in the Agriculture, Mining, Energy & Utilities, Future Ready Award category) at The Australian Financial Review BOSS awards (presented by Cognizant) and awarded a special distinction, Future Ready Award. This accolade underscores Essential Energy’s approach to delivering low-impact, accessible EV charging solutions. It also highlights our unwavering commitment to driving change in the energy sector through innovation.
