Just Add Water... Thanks to a Greater Western Water Community Grant we were able to bring to life our Just Add Water Program which saw students build their knowledge of the importance of water to communities and the importance of our trades to support clean water. A trip to the GWW Training Academy in Melton for Year 9 students from Werribee Secondary College & Bundoora Secondary College for the unique experience. They explored various career pathways in water treatment, hearing inspiring stories from experts like Grant Powell-Technical Training Lead and Sandra- Environmental Scientist. Hands-on activities at the Training Academy were the highlight of the day. The students loved climbing and sitting in the excavator imagining the career opportunities and crafting a water flow system from pipes and random objects around the room. They left with newfound knowledge about trade pathways #informedchoice Day two of the program took us to Victoria University in Werribee with a group of enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 students from The Grange P-12 College. The team were guided by experts John Doig from Reece and Adam from VU and discovered how to shape letters with copper, plastic, and PVC pipes using specialised tools and fittings. The excavator simulator and workshop tours were major highlights, sparking a lot of curiosity about trades careers. The students had a blast, and best of all, they walked away with a deeper appreciation of our trades and how important they are to keeping everyone safe and healthy! THAT'S A WRAP... "To see this student so engaged is amazing. Before today we had only just gotten her back to school, she had no interest at being in school. It's taken us 3 terms to get her back to the classroom and this program has her engaged and smiling in the first few minutes. Incredible"- Year 9 Teacher When someone is provided an opportunity to learn in a different way, to be authentically themselves and to thrive- amazing things happen! What a week it's been. The highlights: 1- The team delivered the 'Just Add Water' Program in partnership with Greater Western Water & Victoria University. 24 students experienced a day at the GWW Training Centre in Melton discovering all things water treatment and were excited to spend the day at VU in Werribee uncovering civil works and plumbing with Reece Plumbing. #futureplumbers 2- The first Empowered Minds 3-day program was delivered with 6 epic humans completing their Mental Health First Aid with Rebecca D'Angelo and undertaking the Thrive Masterclass with Hacia Atherton, CPA, MAPP. Congratulations to our participants for being courageous and openly pledge to want to reduce the stigma around mental health and be able to support their peers in times of need. 3- We attended the NSW Women in Construction Forum this week in Sydney hearing from Minister for Transport Jo Haylen & Minister for Skills, TAFE & Tertiary Education Steve Whan MP about the initiatives to support gender diversity in construction for women in NSW. 4- We were thrilled to sponsor the RMIT University School of Property, Construction and Project Management’s 2024 student awards this year. Congratulations to Lawrence Eid for taking out the best research poster related to female participation in the construction and manufacturing industries. 5- Our founder Hacia was recognised with a 40under40 award from Business Elite Awards. Business Elite’s “40 Under 40” is a prestigious award program that identifies aspiring young business leaders and industry disruptors with the undoubted attitude, quality, potential, desire, determination, and ambition to shape the world of business over the coming decades.
