Upon completion, the Mardie Salt and Potash Project (the Project) will be the largest in Australia and the third largest globally. Securing finance for the major Project was challenging for this reason. There hasn't been a salt project of this size developed in Australia in 25 years, making it difficult to estimate construction costs, technical risks and environmental concerns. We provided BCI Minerals with a $160 million loan with an 11-year tenor in 2023 to fund the construction and initial operational readiness of the Project’s salt first component. As part of the Australian High Commission’s Forum on building resilient clean energy supply chains, our General Manager, Institutional, Daniel Smart, joined a panel discussion on increasing Australia-UK cooperation to create more sustainable supply chains. It was a great opportunity to highlight how we are supporting this mission, through the support we provide for critical minerals, low emission technologies and renewable energy projects in Australia and across the Indo Pacific.

Yesterday, our Chair, Debra Hazelton GAICD, and Managing Director & CEO, John Hopkins, welcomed fellow members to the formal Berne Union Regional Cooperation Group CEO meeting. We heard insightful remarks from Yuichiro Akita, President of the Berne Union, followed by a presentation from Paul Heaney, Secretary-General of the Berne Union, on the evolving trade environment and the role of export credit agencies in supporting economic resilience. Our Chief Financial & Operating Officer, Sonia Kammel (FCPA)(GAICD), and our Chief Investment Officer, Amanda Copping, led two engaging panel discussions. The first, ‘Building partnerships between export credit agencies – models for success,’ explored best practices for collaboration. The second, ‘Supply chain security – challenges and what you’re doing to encourage companies to address them,’ sparked productive conversations among attendees. It was a valuable day of discussions centred around strengthening partnerships, aligning strategic priorities and identifying new opportunities to support global trade.
