If insulation doesn’t recover to its designed thickness after being compressed in its packaging, it won’t achieve the stated thermal performance. Recovery is crucial as it ensures the insulation can effectively trap heat in the tiny air pockets of its fibrous structure. Additionally, proper recovery ensures a snug fit during installation, preventing gaps that could compromise the insulation’s benefits. At Fletcher Insulation, we have leading-edge measures in place to guarantee the quality and reliability of our glasswool insulation. In our NATA-certified laboratory, we measure the recovery of our batts and blankets to ensure they comply with required standards and that the product is as stated on the pack. Further, our key glasswool product lines are Codemark certified, which mandates a comprehensive third-party accreditation that covers product standards, quality processes and installation instructions. Introducing our “Benefits Explained” series, where we break down the terminology used to describe how and why insulation is beneficial in different ways and for different needs. We’re starting off with a very simple explainer of thermal performance. What is it? How does it work? How does insulation provide it? Let us know in the comments which insulation benefit you’d like us to cover next: 💡 Energy Efficiency? 👂 Acoustic Performance? 💧 Condensation Management? ☔️ Protection from Elements? 🔥 Fire Performance? 🫁 Indoor Air Quality? You can also head to our website to explore insulation benefits by product and their applications: insulation.com.au #fletcherinsulation #buildingbettertogether #beyondgreatinsulation #insulationbenefits #thermalperformance #insulation #insulationaustralia

    • Heat is naturally drawn towards cold.
In hot weather, the outdoor heat is drawn to cooler indoor temperatures. In cold weather, it tries to escape from warmer indoor spaces to the colder air outside.
Thermal performance simply refers to how effectively this flow of heat or heat transfer is reduced or prevented.
    • The primary goal is comfort.
Optimal thermal performance provides thermal comfort for occupants. This means indoor temperatures are consistently comfortable throughout the year, with reduced reliance on heating and/or cooling systems.
Thermal comfort is subjective and complex, but generally, recommended temperature ranges are around 18ºC–28ºC.
    • Insulation plays a vital role in thermal performance.
Bulk insulation (such as glasswool) works through effective thermal resistance.
The insulation material is full of tiny pockets of air that trap heat and inhibit heat transfer. This is why it’s important not to compress it.
    • Insulation’s thermal performance has a measurement.
Bulk insulation’s ability to resist heat transfer is given a thermal resistance rating, known as (material) R-value.
This resistance is tested and calculated in a laboratory setting, resulting in an R-value number. The higher the number, the greater the level of resistance.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is aimed at increasing awareness and learning about the histories, cultures, traditions and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and exploring how we can all work towards reconciliation in Australia. NRW is held from May 27 to June 3. These two dates commemorate significant milestones in the reconciliation journey: May 27 – the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, when Australians voted to remove the clauses in the Australian Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. June 3 – the anniversary of the Mabo decision in 1992, through which the High Court of Australia legally recognised native title. The day preceding NRW, May 26, is National Sorry Day, first held in 1998, for remembering and honouring the Stolen Generations. At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between First Nations peoples and non-First Nations peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that reminds us that while generations of Australians have fought for meaningful change, there is still a long way to go. This year’s theme ‘Now More Than Ever’ calls on all of us to continue working together to further understanding, connection and respect. As a part of Fletcher Building, we’re continuing this work towards reconciliation with our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) developed in partnership with YarnnUp. For National Reconciliation Week our employees participated in a ‘Lunch and Learn’ presented by YarnnUp. It was a wonderful opportunity for further understanding of our shared history and the perspectives of First Nations Peoples. We are committed to progressing on this journey of reconciliation. To reflect and learn. To build awareness, connection and respect. We can all work to create change for a better future together. #fletcherinsulation #nationalreconciliationweek #nrw2024 #nowmorethanever #reconciliation

Do you know which climate zone you’re building in? Understanding your house's climate zone is vital when building and renovating for optimising energy efficiency, selecting appropriate materials, complying with building codes, and ensuring indoor comfort. By tailoring construction to the local climate, you can enhance sustainability, reduce environmental impact, and create spaces that are resilient and comfortable year-round. From insulation to ventilation to roof colour, every aspect of design and construction benefits from a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities presented by your specific climate zone. There are two climate zone maps that are used for different purposes when building or renovating a home. The ABCB (Australian Building Codes Board) Climate Zone Map is a simple, eight zone national map used to ensure that buildings comply with the National Construction Code (NCC). It helps in defining requirements for building materials, design standards, and construction methods based on climate considerations. For example, we reference the ABCB climate zones in our Sisalation selection guide for wall wraps and sarkings to help you choose the right product for your climate. NatHERS (Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme) has its own Climate Zone Map which breaks Australia down into 69 local climate zones determined by available climate data. The zones are used specifically for assessing the thermal performance of homes and calculating energy ratings with the NatHERS software to ensure homes meet energy efficiency targets. You can learn more about building for your climate zone on the Australian Government’s YourHome website: yourhome.gov.au Our Sisalation product selection guide can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g4uX5jGE Map Sources: Australian Building Codes Board (https://lnkd.in/gQH3A7Jh) NatHERS (https://lnkd.in/gTZAebS4) #fletcherinsulation #beyondgreatinsulation #buildingbettertogether #insulation #ncc #nathers #yourhome #sustainablebuilding #sustainabledesign #energyefficiency #energyefficienthomes #thermalperformance #architectureanddesign #australianarchitecture #australiandesign #housedesign #newhomebuild #newhomeconstruction #newhomedesign #renovation

As of last week (May 1), 7 star energy efficiency requirements for new homes set by the 2022 National Construction Code (NCC) have now been adopted by Victoria, Queensland, NSW and the ACT, with South Australia and Western Australia soon to follow suit (this October and May 2025 respectively). The main “measuring tape” used to rate the energy efficiency of Australian homes* is the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), administered by the Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. They have provided a simple fact sheet of their ‘Top tips for building for 7 stars,’ outlining eight key decisions you can make to improve your home’s energy efficiency rating: • Involving a NatHERS assessor early in the design process • Repositioning orientation for optimal performance • Improving window glazing, and considering placement and shading • Increasing internal zones for heating and cooling with doors • Insulating more depending on your climate • Incorporating ceiling fans throughout • Selecting appropriate external colours for your climate • Carefully planning lighting placement, especially for greater continuous ceiling insulation To read the full fact sheet go here: https://lnkd.in/gM_Ge4kz To learn more about creating more environmentally sustainable homes, you can check out YourHome.gov.au To discover more about Fletcher Insulation’s energy efficiency solutions for houses visit: https://lnkd.in/g3tzi_r4 *NSW uses BASIX for sustainability assessment and certification, with thermal performance requirements aligned with NatHERS 7 stars. #fletcherinsulation #beyondgreatinsulation #buildingbettertogether #insulation #insulationaustralia #insulationbenefits #insulationsolutions #ncc #nathers #sustainablebuilding #sustainabledesign #energyefficiency #energyefficienthomes #architectureanddesign #australianarchitecture #australiandesign #housedesign #newhomebuild #newhomeconstruction #newhomedesign

    • Building for 7 stars? Insulate more!
A top tip from the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS)
    • Insulate more: depending on the climate, ratings may be improved by increasing the R value of wall, floor and ceiling insulation or extending insulation to new areas e.g. slab edge, underneath the slab, the garage wall and internal walls (especially to unconditioned zones, like laundries and bathrooms). Care must be taken not to increase condensation risk.
