Survey fatigue is due to asking too many questions too frequently right? More often, it’s due to employees: 1) Not buying into the purpose of the survey 2) Not seeing meaningful action taken from previous surveys To beat survey fatigue: 1) ask employee to participate in surveys that will create action they are interested in (increasing employee engagement and productivity isn’t going to win a lot of employee support) 2) take actions that create meaningful change to employee’s experience of work (organisational systems changes are great, but aim for quicker, team level actions as well) If you’ve not been doing the above, you’ve likely witnessed dwindling employee trust and survey response rates. It’s not something that has an instant fix, but doing the above repeatedly can win back many of those that have become cynical. Missed our webinar last week on beating survey fatigue? Ever seen an employee who is really committed to their organisation but are completely spent physically and emotionally? High employee engagement doesn’t equate to a psychologically healthy workplace. By all means, keep measuring engagement. But, don’t consider this a proxy for psychosocial risk as it’s unlikely to provide the insights required to understand likelihood and consequence of harm. There’s often a reluctance to add another consultation piece in addition to the employee engagement survey due to ‘survey fatigue’. But there are ways around this. For a consultation process you can follow that 1) quantifies risk of harm, 2) generates qualitative insights into people’s experience of work, 3) generates ideas for addressing identified hazards sourced directly from workers, 4) meets requirements for psychosocial risk regulations and Respect@Work, and 5) avoids survey fatigue, don’t miss this Thursday’s webinar. #psychosocialriskmanagement #psychhealthandsafety #iso45003 #workplacementalhealth #mentalhealth
