About us

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) was established in 2002 to develop a sustainable property industry in Australia and drive the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions. To drive the transition of the Australian property industry towards: -Sustainability - by promoting green building programs, technologies, design practices and operations -Integration - of green building initiatives into mainstream design, construction and operation of buildings. To achieve these objectives, the GBCA runs the Green Star environmental rating system, education and advocacy efforts in sustainable building practices, and events on the national and international levels.

This week is Anti-Poverty week in Australia, a week created to increase understanding of poverty and homelessness - and take action to end it.   Currently, more than 122,000 Australians are experiencing homelessness - and that’s where Homes for Homes comes in.   Home or commercial property owners, and renters, can register their properties, promising to donate 0.1% of their property's sale price or rent. These funds are then used to increase the supply of social and affordable housing.   GBCA is proud to have a strong partnership with Homes for Homes, which is also supported by Green Star, with bonus Green Star points awarded as part of the Homes for Homes: Creating Social and Affordable Housing Leadership Challenge.   You can learn more about this tangible solution and register at homesforhomes.org.au 🏠 💚 #EveryHomeHelps #socialequality #sustainability

It has been great to attend the Global Nature Positive Summit this week. Yesterday GBCA CEO, Davina Rooney, joined Prof Sarah Bekessy, Dr Matthew Bell, Paolo Bevilacqua and Abbie Galvin in a panel discussion on Biodiversity in the built environment.   It was an important event to reflect on progress that has been made, while discussing the work that urgently needs to be done.   Over the years, we've worked to stay aligned with the latest science and global trends, fostering the integration of nature into the built environment. Building on the release of our Building with Nature 2.0 paper in 2023, we're looking forward to releasing A Nature Roadmap for the Built Environment, early in 2025, following a comprehensive consultation period. Watch this space! 🌟 🌳 https://lnkd.in/gaukGAiT
